iGA Launches ID Card Issuance and Renewal Service for Bahraini Citizens Abroad via bahrain.bh
The Information & eGovernment Authority (iGA) has announced the launch of issuing and renewing ID cards eServices as well as ID card replacements for Bahraini citizens outside the Kingdom of Bahrain. Citizens, or their first-degree relatives, can submit their applications through the national portal The issued ID will be delivered through Aramex courier service to the specified address outside Bahrain, or it can be collected by the authorized individual from the Identity Card service center in Isa Town if within Bahrain. This eService aims to provide an easy and accessible digital service for Bahraini citizens abroad to meet their needs related to ID cards. iGA's Deputy Chief Executive for Statistics and Population Registry Ms. Duaa Sultan Mohammed emphasized that the this eService is part of the iGA's ongoing efforts to enhance and develop government services, improving their quality and expanding options for citizens to complete their transactions from anywhere. She further highlighted that the launch of this new ID card service reflects the directives of HE General Sheikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Minister of Interior, Chairman of the Ministerial Committee for Information and Communication Technology (MCICT), in adopting advanced technologies in enhancing government services, particularly ID card services. She also noted that providing these services to citizens abroad reflects the iGA's commitment to simplifying and facilitating procedures for citizens outside the Kingdom. Ms. Dua Sultan further explained that the new services have been designed to ensure ease of use, flexibility in processing transactions, and full security measures to verify the accuracy of the submitted data. Citizens or their first-degree relatives can apply for ID card issuance or renewal, or request a replacement easily via the national portal She stressed that the iGA is committed to continually improving quality services and achieving citizen satisfaction through the innovative digital solutions that meet their needs and help simplify their daily lives. Additionally, she noted that this service contributes to enhancing Bahrain's leading position in digital transformation in the region. These new eServices, available as part of the ID card service package to save time and effort for users, as citizens can submit multiple requests within the same process. All ready-cards will be delivered via Aramex for those abroad, or authorized individuals can collect them in person from the Identity Card service center in Isa Town. The ID card services have also showcased improvements in the process of updating residential addresses for Bahraini children aged 21 and above in the case of divorce. The address holder can now approve the address change request electronically through the ' Update ID Card Residential Address' eService. Additionally, a new feature has been introduced within the upgraded identity card, allowing individuals who wish to register for organ donation to print the organ donation icon on their ID card according to their preference. The first phase of MyGov includes ID card services such as issuing and renewing ID cards, obtaining replacements for lost or damaged cards, and tracking application status. These services are among the most widely used, with an annual average exceeding 700,000 transactions, both in-person and online. Having them available in a single app for the first time allows users to complete transactions more easily. Additionally, the app enables users to view their birth certificates, along with the ID cards of their children under 18 and domestic workers. This app was recently launched by General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Minister of Interior and Chairman of the Ministerial Committee for Information and Communication Technology. Duaa Sultan Mohammed, Deputy Chief Executive for Statistics and Population Registry at the iGA, emphasised that the availability of these highly utilized services in the app is a strategic move aimed at reinforcing digital transformation and facilitating easy access to government services for citizens and residents in Bahrain via a unified digital platform. She pointed out that the ID card services provided in the first phase of the "MyGov" app include issuing and renewing ID cards, issuing replacement cards for lost and damaged IDs, and tracking ID card application status. These are some of the most used services with an annual average that exceeds 700,000 transactions, both in-person and online. Having these services, for the first time, through a unified app, will help users to access them more easily and complete their transactions seamlessly. Additionally, the app allows users to view their birth certificates, and the ID cards of their children under 18, as well as ID cards for domestic workers. Duaa Sultan said iGA will continue expanding the range of services available on the MyGov app in future phases in efforts to enhancing the ID card system, making services more accessible while ensuring compliance with international best practices in customer service and user experience. MyGov app is one of Bahrain's innovative digital projects, providing citizens and residents with secure, unified access to a variety of government services, she stated. The app is linked to the upgraded eKey 2.0 system, which features biometric authentication (face ID), enhancing security and user experience. The first phase of the app includes 41 government services from nine different government entities. It also offers features such as displaying official documents like ID cards, passports, and birth certificates, government notifications, and more, she added.
