‘Absolutely perfect': Viral choccy lands in Aus

Don't miss out on the headlines from Eat. Followed categories will be added to My News. A household name chocolate brand has finally released its own version of a viral sweet treat in Australia – and foodie influencers have weighed in. Lindt released its Dubai Style Chocolate this week, a tribute to the beloved recipe created by Fix Dessert Chocolatier Sarah Hamouda. Ms Hamouda initially created the indulgent treat, which features a large milk chocolate shell with pistachio cream and shredded Kadayif pastry inside, in 2021. But it wasn't until a social media post two years later that it went viral. X Lindt's version, which is sold only in its stores, features 45 per cent pistachio filling, Kadayif pastry, nut brittle and milk chocolate. It retails for $20. It's nowhere near as chunky as the version popularised by Ms Hamouda's recipe. Popular food content creator Nectorious Papi was one of the first to try it, saying for him it was perfect because of how thin it is. It's not bad but I wouldn't buy it again for $20.' X Last month, a report revealed pistachio kernel prices surged from $12 a pound (almost half a kilo) a year ago to around $16 a pound, according to Giles Hacking of global nut trader CG Hacking. 'The pistachio world is basically tapped out at the moment,' he told the Financial Times. Thankfully, while many countries have been affected by the shortage, Australian supply has largely remained unaffected. Coles said it had a 'great supply of pistachios available' to cope with the growing demand from customers. 'We have seen a noticeable trend in customers seeking pistachio-flavoured food items, and we are committed to offering a wide range of products in this flavour for everyone to enjoy,' a spokesperson told Woolworths also said it had been unaffected by the shortage. The original version of the chocolate bar which is filled with kadayif and pistachio, was created in Dubai by Fix Dessert Chocolatier. However, due to its popularity, many chocolate brands have now come up with their own version of the sweet treat. This includes chocolate giant Lindt who currently have their Dubai Style Chocolate Pistachio and Kadayif bar on sale in Tesco. However shoppers were left gobsmacked when they sale the price it was on sale for as they spotted it on the supermarket's shelves. One person took to Facebook to share the news that the tasty-looking chocolate was on sale. They wrote: "Dubai Style Chocolate Now in Tesco!" ‌ The post quickly racked up hundreds of likes, however, many were stunned by how much it was on sale for. ‌ One person exclaimed: "£10 for a bar of chocolate? Does it contain a golden ticket to win the entire chocolate factory?" While someone else added: "And at £10, it can stay there." A third chimed in: "Corr I would want it to fly into my mouth at that price." While a fourth simply said: "Not at that price." Others admitted they had already bought the £10 bar, with many saying it "wasn't worth" the money. "I was one of the crazy people that spent £10 on this today and I can confirm it's nice but not worth a tenner," someone said. Another added: "I tried and it's good, but not £10 good." While a third claimed: "It doesn't taste like pistachio, more like hazelnut, avoid for the price, Lindt pistachio chocolates are way better!" A further Facebook users also branded it the "most overrated chocolate ever", adding: "I don't see what the hype's all about! It's ok but not the best and certainly not worth the price." ‌ Despite this, the chocolate bar did have at least one fan on the post, as one person branded it "unreal". Those who don't want to splash out £10 on the bar may want to try Lindt Lindor Pistachio Chocolate Truffles instead, which are slightly cheaper at £7.50 for a 200g box. Eagle-eyed Lindt fans may have also seen that there was a pistachio-flavoured Lindt LINDOR Easter Egg on sale at Easter too. However, this wasn't exactly cheap either, with an RRP of £13.00. Talking about its pistachio range, Stefan Bruderer, Master Chocolatier at Lindt & Sprüngli, said: 'We're thrilled to be bringing chocolate fans more pistachio varieties, as we know how much they love them. Our Lindt LINDOR pistachio Truffles were a huge hit last year."

The Viral Dubai Chocolate Frenzy Has Finally Arrived in the UK

Dubai chocolate has been around since 2021, when a woman named Sarah Hamouda layered sweet-salty pistachio cream with tahini and crispy shredded phyllo dough with chocolate for her company Fix Dessert Chocolate. The confection quickly made the rounds on TikTok, people began making it themselves, and posts about the nutty, crunchy chocolate regularly generate millions of views. Demand has been so strong that the Turkish pistachio industry was impacted: In 2024 the country substantially increased exports of Syrian nuts to stabilize prices of pastries such as baklava. Demand in the US has been so fierce that knockoff versions have proliferated. And now Dubai chocolate is finally blowing up in the UK, thanks to belated efforts by retailers offering their own pistachio-chocolate bars. The reaction in Britain has been intense. Lines formed outside some Lidl stores when they began selling J.D. Gross Dubai-Style Chocolate bars on March 29. On Sunday, Waitrose introduced Lindt's Dubai Style Chocolate bars at some stores; demand was so great, it quickly had to limit supply to two per customer.
