Harassed & verbally abused by 4 classmates, teen girl quits school

Lucknow: A Class 8 girl was forced to quit school in view of the harassment, including verbal abuse, blackmail and cyberbullying , by four of her classmates. According to the formal complaint to Dubagga police station, by the girl's mother, the 13-year-old girl had to face prolonged harassment at the hands of four boy students. The complainant alleges that the accused boys extorted money from her daughter and used it for their personal indulgence. "When she refused to give them more, they allegedly hurled obscene abuse at her. The boys also gained access to her Instagram account, sent vulgar messages posing as her, and later used those messages to threaten and blackmail her, warning her they would make the chats viral," the girl's mother stated in the complaint. The family came to know about the harassment on Feb 24 and raised the issue with the school authorities. However, no disciplinary action was taken, according to the complaint. The girl was subsequently transferred to another school, but the harassment allegedly continued. On Apr 18, one of the accused sent her obscene messages again via Instagram, including threats. The complaint also mentions prior messages sent around Holi in Jan and an unsolicited hotel invitation in June last year, which her daughter did not accept. As per the complaint, the prolonged mental trauma caused the girl to develop symptoms of depression and other health complications, for which she is now receiving treatment. Inspector Dubbaga, Abhinav Kumar, said that an FIR under the charges of BNS 79 (insulting women's modesty), 352 (intentional insult), 351 (2) (criminal intimidation), IT Act, and other relevant charges against the accused named boys have been lodged. "A probe is being conducted," he said. Lucknow: A Class 8 girl was forced to quit school in view of the harassment, including verbal abuse, blackmail and cyberbullying, by four of her classmates.
