Jeeps roll into semi-state since 2007
DUBOIS COUNTY, Ind. (WEHT) — The Dubois County Jeeps baseball team is heading to semi-state for the first time since 2007.
Jeeps head coach Luke Woolems says the team can feel the excitement.
'There's a difference between excitement and nerves,' Woolems said.
Excitement and anticipation to do something the school has never done before. But around practice, Northeast Dubois is treating it like it's just another day in May.
'I feel calmer than I have been the entire tournament at this point,' Woolems said. 'I think the players feeding off that and they are relaxed.'
'I know for sure we are going to walk in there confident and so there's going to be nothing to it,' senior Aiden Sheetz said.
But there is something to what the Jeeps are doing recently. Winners of six straight games, Northeast Dubois have won those games by a combined score of 73 – 7.
The Jeeps senior slugger Aidan Sheetz is a big reason why. Going into postseason play, Sheetz had one homerun on the season now that total is up to four.
Three long balls in just four games. When you ask him what's working once again it's about staying calm under pressure.
'I'm confident at the plate and I have a message on my wrist I read every time I go up to bat,' Sheetz said. 'What's that message if you don't mind me asking It's Philippians four verses six through seven it says don't be anxious about anything just leave it up to Him. That's what I do every time.'
Leaving that anxiety behind might be tough when you are on the doorstep of the biggest win in school history.
