Good Samaritans help rescue man swept down river, Maury County officials say

MAURY COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) — The quick actions of two good Samaritans have been commended by first responders after an emergency on the water was reported in Maury County. According to the Maury County Fire Department, rescue crews responded Friday around 5:30 p.m. to the Chickasaw Trace Park boat ramp after receiving a report about three people who were swept down the Duck River. Preparing for potential summer hazards: Swimming safety Witnesses told authorities that a man with autism had entered the water and struggled as he was swept downstream. Two men jumped in the water to help him, and bystanders eventually lost sight of all three people as they were pulled down the river. The Maury County Sheriff's Department and Maury Regional EMS responded to assist in the search. Officials said shortly after the search was launched, emergency crews found all three men on a river bank several hundred yards downstream. They were taken back up the river by rescue boat. Authorities said no injuries were reported. ⏩ The fire department said in a statement on social media, 'The heroism of these two bystanders undoubtedly saved a life. We continue to encourage swimmers, kayakers, and boaters to wear Coast Guard approved life jackets while enjoying activities on the water this summer.' Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc.
