‘When you have to rip out a band-aid, how do you do it…Slowly, no. Rapidly,' says Salman Khan on handling breakups; find out if this mindset really helps
Salman Khan's take on breakups is as straightforward as his on-screen persona. While speaking to his nephew Arhaan Khan on his YouTube podcast channel titled Dumb Biryani, Salman compared moving on from a breakup to ripping off a band-aid — quick, decisive, and without dwelling on the pain. He advised Arhaan, 'Even if your girlfriend has broken up with you, let her go. Bye bye.' Salman then compared breaking up with a girl to ripping off a band-aid and said, 'When you have to rip out a band-aid, how do you do it? Slowly? No. Rapidly. Go inside a room, have a good cry and finish the subject. Come out and just say 'What's up? How's it going?'' However, he quickly emphasised the importance of apologising as soon as one recognises their mistake. 'Always apologise when you have made a mistake. 'Thank you' and 'sorry' should come out spontaneously,' he said. While some believe that swiftly moving on helps avoid prolonged suffering, others argue that rushing through heartbreak may suppress emotions rather than resolve them. Sonal Khangarot, licensed rehabilitation counsellor and psychotherapist, The Answer Room, tells 'Pushing oneself to 'get over it' fast can be a form of emotional suppression and can backfire. While distraction and forward movement are important, ignoring pain can have several consequences.' Khangarot shares some of them: – Rebound Relationships: Jumping into a new relationship before fully healing can transfer unresolved emotions, repeating unhealthy patterns. – Delayed Grief: Suppressed emotions often resurface later in unexpected ways — through anxiety, resentment, or emotional numbness. – Self Deception: Convincing yourself you are fine doesn't mean you indeed are. Unprocessed pain can show up as irritability, avoidance, or physical symptoms like fatigue or headaches. 'That said, wallowing indefinitely isn't healthy either. A balanced approach — allowing emotions to be felt while maintaining self care and perspective is key,' suggests the expert. Khangarot highlights that treating heartbreak as an inconvenience to be buried 'can have serious psychological effects.' Emotional numbing can make it harder to experience joy or form deep connections in future relationships. Suppressed emotions often manifest as anxiety, irritability, or prolonged sadness. Unprocessed loss can also create a fear of vulnerability, leading to commitment issues. Additionally, ignoring pain may reinforce cognitive distortions, such as believing that love is pointless or that people always leave, which can negatively impact future relationships. The healthiest approach to breakups lies in balance, she says, acknowledgment with action. Feel your emotions, but don't dwell in hopelessness; journaling or talking to a friend can help. Rebuilding routines, like focusing on fitness, hobbies, and social activities, fosters healing. Most importantly, seek closure within yourself — true healing comes from self-reflection and growth, not from revisiting the past.

Salman's no-nonsense approach to success
When Bollywood superstar Salman Khan speaks, the world listens - or at least tunes in curiously, as he rarely minces his words. Making his podcast debut on his nephew Arhaan Khan's YouTube channel, Dumb Biryani, Salman brought his signature candour to the table, tackling everything from motivation to sleep schedules with a bracing honesty that only 'Bhai' can deliver. Arhaan, who co-hosts the channel with friends Dev Raiyani and Arush Verma, provided a comfortable space for Salman to open up. In classic Salman style, he dismissed the culture of external motivation. "I don't believe in this motivation bull** talk. Brush your teeth, and get out. Nobody likes to go to the gym or learn something. It is painful and it's about willingly making a fool out of yourself. But you need to put yourself at that end, and get as good as possible," he declared, emphasising that discipline trumps all. For Salman, the idea of learning is not tied to traditional methods. "If you actually want to learn, you can even learn from the tree or the wall. Of course, you need to listen to your guru, but that can even be Google or YouTube. All you need is to be disciplined," he mused. It's this self-reliant attitude that has likely fuelled his decades-long career in an industry known for its fickleness. Reflecting on his own approach to life's challenges, Salman shared, "When we used to play a sport, and get tired, and start panting, we still had a wide smile on our faces. We wanted to get back and do the same thing all over again. Nowadays, we lose that enthusiasm and get complacent. Never let go of that enthusiasm." The Ek Tha Tiger star warned against letting complacency become a habit, cautioning, "If you let go of this enthusiasm, you are allowing yourself to become a much older version of yourself. That should never happen."

Salman Khan opens up about time when he was in prison
Bollywood superstar Salman Khan recently sat down with his nephew Arhaan Khan and shared his personal and professional experiences on the Arhaan's podcast Dumb Biryani. During his first-ever podcast appearance, Khan reflected on his journey. One of the excerpts of the conversation that caught everyone's attention is when the Dabangg star briefly opened up about the time when he was in prison. While discussing the importance of hard work and disciple, the actor emphasised that making excuses, such as needing sleep, only acts as an obstacle in achieving success. He said, "'I am tired.' No, get up. No matter how tired you are. 'I don't get sleep'. Don't sleep. Do something, you'll automatically go to sleep. So I don't understand these things... I sleep for an hour and a half or two hours and then someday, once in a month, I sleep for seven hours." "Somedays I'll get a five-minute break between shots so I'll sleep on the chair. In places where I cannot do anything, like when I was in jail, I slept. I couldn't do anything about it... When it comes to your work or family, the effort that you have to keep on putting in... you just need to be there for friends and family and work," he added. His imprisonment was linked to a controversial case involving the illegal hunting of blackbucks in 1998.
