A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Season 1: Release date speculation, cast and plot details – Everything we know so far
By Aman Shukla Published on May 15, 2025, 19:30 IST Last updated May 15, 2025, 19:41 IST Fans of Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon are eagerly awaiting the next chapter in the Westeros saga, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms . This upcoming American fantasy drama, created by George R.R. Martin, is a prequel set in the rich universe of A Song of Ice and Fire . Based on Martin's Tales of Dunk and Egg novellas, the series promises a fresh perspective on Westeros, focusing on the adventures of Ser Duncan the Tall and his squire, Egg. In this article, we dive into the latest release date speculation, cast details, and plot insights for Season 1. The release date for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Season 1 has been a topic of much speculation. Initially, HBO and George R.R. Martin announced an early 2025 premiere, with some sources even suggesting a summer 2025 launch. However, recent reports indicate a shift to 2026, with a likely early winter premiere, possibly January or February. This delay aligns the series with the anticipated release of House of the Dragon Season 3, suggesting HBO's strategy to stagger its Westeros-based content for maximum impact. While no official date has been confirmed, the early 2026 window is the most consistent across recent updates. Cast for Season 1 The cast for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Season 1 brings fresh faces to the Westeros universe, with talented actors embodying key characters from Martin's novellas. The confirmed cast includes: Peter Claffey as Ser Duncan the Tall (Dunk), a young and courageous hedge knight. as Ser Duncan the Tall (Dunk), a young and courageous hedge knight. Based on the novella The Hedge Knight , Season 1 will likely cover their early exploits, including a notable tournament at Ashford Meadow, where Dunk's honor and Egg's hidden identity as a Targaryen come into play. The official synopsis describes 'two unlikely heroes' navigating a Westeros still shaped by the Targaryen dynasty, encountering several members of House Targaryen. Expect political intrigue, knightly duels, and the signature moral complexity of Martin's world, all on a more intimate scale than the epic battles of Game of Thrones . A KNIGHT OF THE SEVEN KINGDOMS Shifts Release to 2026, No GAME OF THRONES This Year
We were gearing up to celebrate more Game of Thrones coming our way in 2025. Warner Bros. Discovery executives told us over and over again that the new Game of Thrones spinoff, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, would arrive this year. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms footage was even featured in a teaser trailer for Max's 2025 slate. But alas. There will not be more Game of Thrones in 2025, not even A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. Instead, at upfronts this year, HBO revealed that A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms has shifted its release date to 2026. Here's what we learned. Per Variety, at its upfront presentation, HBO showed the audience a first look at A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. At the end of this sneak peek footage of the Game of Thrones series, a title card noted the year '2026.' And HBO content chairman and CEO Casey Bloys confirmed the 2026 release date shift for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, saying the show would arrive in the 'winter.' That does seem to indicate an early 2026 release. But still! We were ready for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms to release in 2025. No official release date was ever set for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, but now we know that release date will end with a 6. It felt like the show was nearly on its way to being done. Even G.R.R. Martin was happy with it! But we guess it needed just a little more time to cook. We wouldn't want to find a raw egg on our plates, after all. That would not be appetizing. RELATED ARTICLE HBO Shares First Footage of Dunk and Egg From A KNIGHT OF THE SEVEN KINGDOMS The Game of Thrones spinoff has at least shared its official logline. From HBO, here is what A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms will be all about whenever its release date arrives. A century before the events of Game of Thrones, two unlikely heroes wandered Westeros… a young, naïve but courageous knight, Ser Duncan the Tall, and his diminutive squire, Egg. Set in an age when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne and the memory of the last dragon has not yet passed from living memory, great destinies, powerful foes, and dangerous exploits all await these improbable and incomparable friends. We can't wait to know more about it soon… we hope!

Fifteen years of Lewis Dunk, a Brighton & Hove Albion statesman
The restorative nature of Brighton & Hove Albion's late comeback win against West Ham highlighted the influence of Lewis Dunk and the folly of writing off the club's long-serving captain. 'The players showed special character, especially my skipper, Lewis Dunk,' said head coach Fabian Hurzeler after vital points in the bid to reach Europe for the second time in three seasons were secured by Kaoru Mitoma's 89th-minute header and Carlos Baleba's long-range effort three minutes later in Saturday's 3-2 victory at the Amex Stadium. Advertisement 'How he supported his team-mates, how he stayed positive. He was verbally there with his voice, with his body language,' Hurzeler continued as he sang Dunk's praises. 'It was an impressive performance.' Dunk signed his first professional contract for his home city team 15 years ago today. He made his debut the following day in a 0-0 draw away to Milton Keynes Dons in the third tier. That was the first of 485 appearances under eight managers in three divisions, with the prospect of more to come. Hurzeler has joined Gus Poyet, Oscar Garcia, Sami Hyypia, Nathan Jones, Chris Hughton, Graham Potter and Roberto De Zerbi in benefiting from Dunk's presence in the centre of defence. At 33, he is in the twilight of a remarkably consistent one-club career, interrupted only by three appearances on loan to Bristol City for two months when he turned 22 during Oscar's reign in 2013. He has worn the armband with distinction since Bruno Saltor retired from playing in 2019. Dunk's return to form against West Ham was accompanied by Solly March's first start for 18 months after major knee damage. Back on the right wing, it was March's 296th appearance for the club. 'I love to have players on the pitch who are homegrown or here in this club for a long time, because it's always a good thing when players understand the club,' said Hurzeler before last month's 2-1 defeat away to rivals Crystal Palace. 'It's always important to have these players in the team.' Hurzeler has been unfortunate that he has not been able to depend on Dunk to the same extent as his predecessors. Dunk had never missed more than nine games in a 38-game Premier League season since Brighton's promotion in 2017 but he has already sat out 10 matches. A calf injury sustained in October and a rib injury in February have left him playing matches to catch up with his fitness, with his high standards of performance dipping. Advertisement Dunk has still only made one error leading to a goal in the current campaign, according to data from Opta. Yet for perspective, he made just three errors leading to goals in total across his previous seven seasons in the top flight. 'He has been brilliant, he is our skipper,' Dutch international central defender Jan Paul van Hecke told The Athletic following a 2-1 home win against fellow European qualification contenders Fulham last month during Dunk's most recent absence from the side. 'He supports everyone when he's not playing. 'He has a big role in our team. I've been playing for three years with him and looking at him, the way he does it, passes the ball, blocks. Looking at other players, you can see how good they are and you pick up things yourself.' As well as an example on the pitch to members of the squad, such as 24-year-old Van Hecke, Dunk is also one of the big characters in the dressing room. Winger Yankuba Minteh, 20, speaking to The Athletic this month, said: 'He is a leader. He makes jokes all the time and he is a good team-mate. Lewis and Danny (Welbeck) joke a lot with the young players, we look at them like brothers, which is good. It makes you even more part of the team.' Dunk's mischievous sense of humour was highlighted by poking fun at critics of Hurzeler while attending a Premier League darts event in Brighton in March. TV footage captured Dunk holding up a sign to the camera with Hurzeler's name and 'out' and 'in' crossed out multiple times before settling on 'Hurzeler IN' during a period when a 7-0 thrashing at Nottingham Forest was followed by six straight wins. 'Lewis sent me a picture of it,' said Hurzeler when asked during a press conference if he had seen it. 'He is a great character. He is not only a great player, a skipper, he is also a person who has great humour. Advertisement 'It's so important to have this humour in life, to enjoy the work you are doing. It's not only about doing the hard work — it's enjoying the journey, this togetherness. I have a good relationship with him. He is a really funny guy.' Dunk is in a new phase at Brighton since an international career of six caps spread over six years seemingly ended as an unused member of the England squad under former head coach Gareth Southgate at the European Championship in Germany last summer. All of his Premier League appearances had been as a starter until a landmark 250th outing on his return from injury as a substitute in a 1-1 home draw against Southampton in November. Competition in the centre of defence from Van Hecke, currently injured pair Adam Webster and Igor Julio, plus January signing Eiran Cashin, could be revamped during the summer transfer window amid a general lack of pace that has been exposed on occasion this season due to Hurzeler's preference to play a high line. A concession of 13 goals in the last five league games leaves Brighton with the seventh-worst defensive record in the division (55 goals in 34 matches). Dunk's contract expires in June 2026. It includes an automatic one-year extension, dependent on appearance-based criteria next season. He is enrolled on a sporting directorship course, run by the PFA (Professional Footballers' Association) Business School in Manchester, as he prepares for life after football. The defender's aim, however, is to play on with Brighton for as long as possible. There is no indication that such a long-standing love affair will end any time soon. A well-placed source, granted anonymity to protect relationships, said: 'Over the last couple of seasons, Dunk has become more of a statesman at the club than just a captain.'

Brighton 2-2 Leicester - the fans' verdict
We asked for your views on the 2-2 draw between Brighton and Leicester in the Premier are some of your comments:Brighton fansStuart: One of the worst performances I've seen at the Amex. Dunk was really poor, and I love Hinshelwood, but he's not a right-back - he is constantly out of position. Too many passes on the edge of the box, please just shoot. Leicester deserved the As awful as it was predictable. There weren't many Brighton fans turning up expecting us to win. The squad is ravaged by injuries, Dunk very sadly no longer good enough for this level and a head coach that's just been given a role too big for him. Any talk of Europe has to stop as we should just hope we can finish in the top half. It's been a really underwhelming season. Need it to be over quickly!Anton: See it so many times, great play and clever moves until it gets to the last strike, then it all goes wrong. We have missed a ton of goals season after season which should have been converted. Watching us move the ball with clever calculated passes, great intelligent game play and sometimes an almost second sight, just to be let down in front of fans Brad: Who is this Leicester side?! Couldn't score if our lives depended on it! And yet on Saturday they played like a team that had something to fight for! Let's hope we can now end this season on a bit of a Mavididi our best player - why hasn't the manager used him this season? There's a half decent team in there somewhere but Van Nistelrooy hasn't got a clue what his best team is, nor can he inspire them to fight for the club whose shirt they are A much better performance from the lads and on another day with a different referee we may have won the game. Coady penalty was harsh, Mavididi not given a penalty when his opponent had his hands around the neck/throat and his face. Encouraging signs, but we had them against West Ham too just after Ruud arrived.
