Wisconsin man arrested near school zone for 5th OWI offense

ELK MOUND, Wis. (WFRV) – A 55-year-old Wisconsin man is currently in custody after being arrested Tuesday morning near a school zone for his 5th OWI offense. According to a release from the Dunn County Sheriff's Office, a deputy conducted a traffic stop at 8:23 a.m. near the intersection of Highway 12 and Juniper Street in the Village of Elk Mound. Officials say the driver, 55-year-old Brian Brunner from Menomonie, claimed to have driven to the area to purchase laundry detergent and was suspected to be driving while under the influence of alcohol. Wisconsin man arrested after allegedly robbing gas station Brunner was found to be restricted to a .02 BAC limit and could only operate a vehicle with an ignition interlock due to multiple offenses in the past. Following field sobriety tests a breath test was administered revealing Brunner to be at a .0234 BAC. The 55-year-old was arrested and booked into the Dunn County Jail with the following charges being referred to the Dunn County District Attorney's Office: WI SS 346.63(1)(a) – Operating While Under the Influence (5th Offense) WI SS 347.413(1) – Operating a Vehicle Without Required Ignition Interlock Device WI SS 343.44(1)(b) – Operating After License Revocation Officials say the traffic stop was conducted in an area close to the route of school buses and within just a few blocks from local schools. This incident serves as a sobering reminder that impaired driving can occur at any time, and underscores the ongoing importance of highway safety and enforcement efforts to protect all members of our community. A 54-year-old jogger was found lying in a ditch in a fatal hit-and-run involving an alleged intoxicated teenage driver, Wisconsin authorities say. A 911 caller discovered the woman just after 7 a.m. Saturday, March 29, in Dunn, according to the Dunn County Sheriff's Office. The woman, identified by authorities as Ann Seidl, was pronounced dead at the scene, the sheriff's office said. 'She was wearing bright clothing, including a reflective traffic safety vest, and was running on the correct side of the highway when struck,' according to the investigators. The department received information about the location of the vehicle believed to have been involved in the crash. The accused driver, a 17-year-old girl, had fled after the crash, according to a news release. She was arrested and charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated, hit and run causing death and homicide by intoxicated use of a motor vehicle, the sheriff said. Seidl, of Eau Claire, was well known in her local running community, competing in half-marathon races and also running alongside one of her sons, according to the Eau Claire Marathon. 'It is with heavy hearts that the Eau Claire Marathon committee learned of Ann's passing,' the organization said in a Facebook post. 'She was one of our most dedicated participants, and we will deeply miss seeing her both on the course and cheering for Parker.' Heather Market-Sullivan, a member of that committee, told WEAU she will remember Seidl as being kind, funny and supportive. She said Seidl was a 'proud mother of three boys.' Seidl worked for C.C. We Adapt, which provides peer support and mentorship services, according to WQOW. In a statement to the news outlet, the company said Seidl 'played a pivotal role' as its tenant support program was formed. 'Her unwavering dedication, compassion, and commitment to this work laid the foundation for a program that continues to serve some of our most vulnerable community members,' the business said. 'The impact Ann made will be felt for years to come, and her contributions will not be forgotten.' Eau Claire is about a 90-mile drive east from Minneapolis.

Deputies with the Dunn County Sheriff's Office say that dispatch got a call on Saturday, March 29, around 7:15 a.m. from someone reporting seeing a woman, who appeared to have been hit by a vehicle, in a ditch. 17-year-old in Wisconsin faces reckless homicide charge after alleged fight with family member When first responders arrived at the scene on County Highway Y between 330th Avenue and 370th Avenue in the Town of Dunn, the woman was found just off the roadway and was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities were able to get information about a possible suspect vehicle and found it shortly after. The alleged driver, a 17-year-old girl, was arrested for OWI – First Offense, Hit and Run Causing Death, and Homicide by Intoxicated Use of a Motor Vehicle.
