Sivaji Ganesan's family settles loan dispute over Annai Illam house

Chennai: Actor Sivaji Ganesan's family has informed the Madras high court that they have reached a settlement in his grandson Dushyanth's loan dispute case. As a result, Danabhakiyam Enterprises, which earlier sought to seize Sivaji's 'Annai Illam' residence, has now withdrawn its appeal. Dushyanth borrowed ₹3 crore from Danabhakiyam Enterprises to produce a film titled 'Jagajala Killadi'. The company filed a case in the high court demanding repayment of ₹9 crore, including interest. Based on an HC directive, the matter was taken up for arbitration. The arbitrator, after hearing the case, ordered that all rights to the film 'Jagajala Killadi' be transferred to Danabhakiyam Enterprises. Following this, Danabhakiyam Enterprises filed a petition seeking enforcement of the order and also requested the seizure of 'Annai Illam' residence. Justice Abdul Quddhose, who heard the petition, ordered the seizure of the 'Annai Illam' house. However, actor Prabhu (Sivaji Ganesan's son) filed a petition stating that the house legally belonged to him as it was willed to him by his father, Sivaji Ganesan. He requested that the seizure order be cancelled. After reviewing the petition, Justice Abdul Quddhose ruled that Prabhu is the rightful owner of the 'Annai Illam' house and revoked the seizure order. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo Danabhakiyam Enterprises appealed this decision, and the case came up for hearing before Chief Justice KR Shriram and Justice Sundar Mohan. Varunan's review The Times of India rated the movie 2 out of 5, and a part of their review read, 'The God of Water deserved better than this tepid tale of men arguing over plastic cans. The plot, such as it is, escalates from petty territorial squabbles to predictable betrayals and eventual bloodshed, without ever making us care who controls which street's hydration. In its better moments, Varunan hints at the film it could have been—a glimpse of clarity quickly muddied by convention. Like its water cans, the potential remains sealed.' Varunan's plot overview Varunan is a thrilling drama set in North Chennai, where two water supply groups lock horns over area control. On one side is the experienced Ayyavu (Radha) and his loyal boys Thillai (Dushyanth) and Marudhu (Priyadharsan), who just want to run their business peacefully. On the other side is the cunning John (Charan), backed by his greedy wife Raani (Maheshwari) and her rowdy brother Dabba (Shankarnag). But they're not just supplying water, they're hiding illegal liquor inside the cans. As the rivalry heats up, fights break out, friendships break down, and a crooked cop adds more fuel to the fire. What starts as small fights soon turns into a violent war, with everyone out to survive and win.

In a dramatic turn, Dhanabhakyam Enterprises filed a case at the High Court seeking the attachment of Annai Illam, the iconic residence of Ganesan, to enforce the court's previous order. The court initially approved the seizure, but actor filed a counter-petition, asserting that the property was legally registered under his name and that his brother, (Dushyanth's father), had no ownership claim.
