Recovery operations are underway, and first responders are continuing their heroic efforts to search for survivors among the countless piles of destroyed homes and businesses in Kentucky and Missouri, days after a disastrous tornado outbreak tore across those states, leaving dozens of people dead. Kentucky suffered widespread damage, especially in London and Somerset. Gov. Andy Beshear said at least 19 people were killed in his state, although Kentucky Rep. Hal Rogers believes that number could be closer to two dozen. At least seven people were killed in Missouri when the severe weather and tornadoes swept across the state, including in the St. Louis area. According to the National Weather Service, the tornado that slammed St. Louis has a preliminary rating of Ef-3, with winds estimated to be about 150 mph. In addition, the twister was up to a mile wide at some points when it was carving out its path of deadly destruction. Millions of Americans in the Plains, South and Midwest will be at risk of dangerous storms this week, including communities that were just slammed by deadly tornadoes and severe weather. NOAA's Storm Prediction Center has issued a Level 4 out of 5 risk of severe storms on Sunday, including cities such as Wichita, Kansas. A Level 3 out of 5 risk is posted for Monday and Tuesday. Areas that were impacted by deadly tornadoes on Friday night are included in the Monday and Tuesday threat zones. The unofficial start to summer is getting closer, and millions of people across the U.s. are getting ready to travel for Memorial Day weekend. Data collected by AirHelp revealed the 10 best and worst airports for flight disruptions ahead of this year's holiday. The data came from airports with 10,000 or more flights during April 2025. Airports in California had the fewest disruptions, while airports in Texas and New Jersey had the most. The skies over Chicago became an apocalyptic scene Friday as a dust storm raced through the Windy City. The National Weather Service started issuing alerts about the dust in central Illinois and western Indiana on Friday evening, and a Dust Storm Warning was in effect in Chicago until 9 p.m. local time. Images circulating on social media showed a huge dust cloud moving through places such as Bloomington and Homer Glen in Illinois before the cloud arrived in Chicago. Temperatures well below average this week in Wisconsin, widespread rain likely Tuesday

Grab your jacket and umbrella before heading out the door this week. Much of Wisconsin will see unseasonably cold temperatures and plenty of chances for rain, though no severe weather is expected. Rain is expected to start late Monday night and continue into Wednesday. Widespread showers are most likely Tuesday, with up to three quarters of an inch of rain possible during the daytime. The bulk of the rain is expected in southern Wisconsin, including Madison and Milwaukee, though the system could shift farther north. "A lot of the severe threat is going to stay well to the south," said National Weather Service meteorologist Kevin Wagner. The rain is much needed in the region. A rare May 16 dust storm in Chicago was caused by strong winds that picked up dust from dry farmlands. It was the first time the NWS issued a Dust Storm Warning that included the Chicago metropolitan area, Wagner said. "We haven't seen too much rain across the area, so any amount would be pretty beneficial, especially early in the spring," he said. There's a chance for patchy frost tonight — the low will reach 39 degrees. It's not a bad idea to bring potted plants inside or cover up new plantings with cloth. But cloud cover actually helps reduce the likelihood of frost, Wagner said. "That may insulate us a little bit more and keep us just warm enough to prevent any widespread frost," he said. High temperatures will hover around 50 degrees for much of the week, well below normal for this time of the year. Typically, highs are in the upper 60s by this week in May, according to NWS data. Temperatures could be up to 10 degrees cooler near Lake Michigan, and brisk winds could make it feel even chillier. The weather should improve heading into Memorial Day weekend, with no chances for rain after Wednesday night. Highs will reach the 60s by Friday and Saturday with mostly sunny skies. Windy without dust, then T-storms — Your 9-Day Forecast

Thankfully, today was a much better day than Sunday. Sunday's high was 94, the peak gust was 52 mph, and who could forget the near total brown-out from dust and the Dust Storm Warning. We were cooler today with highs in the mid 80s, and the dusty haze was very slight. Here's your exclusive 9-Hour Forecast for Tuesday: TONIGHT: The skies will be mostly clear with a few clouds and a very slight dusty haze early in the evening. The SW winds will range from 15-45 mph with the strongest gusts on the east slopes of the mountains. Winds will diminish in the early morning hours, and the low will drop to 60. FORECAST: Tuesday will be sunny and a little cooler with a high of 82. The afternoon will be moderately windy with SW winds gusting to 30 mph (no dust). Wednesday will be mostly sunny and moderately windy with gusts near 30 mph (no dust). Wednesday's high: 80. Thursday will be sunny and nearly perfect with light winds and a high of 87. Friday will be partly cloudy with a chance of isolated t-storms. Expect an increase in humidity by midday, and the high will be 86. That elevated humidity hangs around for Saturday. Saturday will be partly to mostly cloudy with a chance of isolated showers and t-storms. Saturday's high: 83. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Weather Authority Alert: 1 more brown-out day before beautiful Easter

I had just pulled up for our noon service at church when my phone alarm triggered. Another Dust Storm Warning!! Again, the Interstate between Las Cruces and Lordsburg is closed due to dangerous conditions. El Paso is experiencing its second brown-out from dust for the second time this week, and we are likely to have another brown-out from dust on Saturday. The change? Saturday will feel much colder as a cold front blows through. Here's your exclusive 9-Hour Forecast: TONIGHT: KTSM has issued a Weather Authority Alert due to powerful winds and blowing dust today and Saturday. A Wind Advisory is posted until 8 PM. A Dust Storm Warning is posted until 6:30 PM but may be extended. A Dust Storm Warning is the highest level of warning for dust with visibility in some place under 1/4 mile. Drive carefully. The SW winds will be strongest during the evening hours, will cause a brown-out of dust, and will gust near 65 mph. The low will be 55, and the winds will die down a bit during the overnight hours. FORECAST: Saturday will be partly to mostly cloudy with much colder gusts. The SW winds will shift NW as a cold front comes through. Winds will gust near 55 mph, so yes, we will see blowing dust and a near brown-out by afternoon. Add in a chance of a few drops of rain for a real mess. Saturday's high: 68. By Saturday evening, the winds will start to die down, and the dust will settle. After a horrible stretch of windy, dusty days, we can look forward to Easter Sunday. It will be gorgeous with sunshine, light winds, and a high of 77. Monday will be sunny and breezy with a high of 85. The SW winds will range from 5-20 mph. Tuesday will be sunny with moderate winds and a high of 87. The west winds will gust to 30 mph, but we should be dust free. Wednesday will be sunny and 86 with warm, moderate winds (no dust). Weather Authority Alert: Blowing dust into morning hours

I sometimes joke about how, during very windy days, El Paso looks like Mars. Weather Watcher Dominica Taylor sent in this picture from Cornudas, TX. Are we sure this was not taken by the Martian Lander? (Okay, I guess the plants give it away!) We remain under a High Wind Warning until 9 PM and a Dust Storm Warning until 7:15 PM, which may be extended. The strongest gusts have been 59 mph at El Paso's airport, 61 mph in Las Cruces, and a 78 mph in Ruidoso. Thankfully, Wednesday will be much better. Here's your exclusive 9-Hour Forecast: TONIGHT: KTSM has issued a Weather Authority Alert due to powerful winds and dangerous levels of blowing dust through Tuesday night. A High Wind Warning is posted until 9 PM. A Dust Storm Warning is posted until 5 PM but may be extended. West winds will gust near 60 mph causing blowing dust well into the night. Slowly, the winds will turn NW as cooler air flows into the Borderland. Winds will begin to taper off slowly past midnight. The low will be 40. FORECAST: Wednesday will be sunny with much lighter winds and no dust. The NW winds will range from 5-25 mph, and the high will be a cooler 64. Thursday will be sunny and warmer with a high of 76. The south breeze will range from 5-15 mph. Friday will be sunny and breezy with a high of 80. Saturday will be moderately windy with a slight haze and a high of 83. The SW-west winds will pick up and gust near 40 mph with the strongest gusts on the east slopes. Sunday will be partly cloudy with lighter winds and a high of 80. Monday will be sunny and very warm with a high of 84. Tuesday will be partly cloudy with a high of 86. Wednesday will be partly to mostly cloudy with isolated area showers and even a few isolated t-storms. Wednesday's high: 85. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
