Notre Dame baseball solidly defeats host Stetson, sweeps weekend in Florida
It was already a successful weekend for Notre Dame baseball ahead of the series finale against Stetson on Sunday, but the Irish decided it would be extremely successful as they completed a three-game sweep with a 8-2 victory over the host Hatters.
The Irish beat Iowa on Friday, University of Maryland, Baltimore County on Saturday, pushing their early season record to 5-1. The final game of the three-game set saw starter Rory Fox throw three perfect innings with four strikeouts. Reliever Dylan Heine gave up two runs in two innings, but his teammates Chase Van Ameyde, Kellan Klosterman and Tobey McDonough picked him up with unblemished outings.
Offensively it was a trio of players with two RBI, as left fielder Jared Zimbardo, designated hitter Bino Watters and catcher Carson Tinney led the way. The top three batters in the Notre Dame lineup showed exactly why they lead off a game.
The Irish are back on the diamond Friday night, as they start a three-game series in Nashville, Tennessee against the Belmont Bruins and look to extend their 3-game winning streak.
