Sierra Club to lay off dozens of employees
The Sierra Club this week announced plans to lay off about 30 employees, according to the environmental group's staff union.
The latest round of cuts to the organization's national staff, announced Tuesday, comes after the group previously announced plans in May to lay off 10 employees at the Sierra Club's chapters, the Progressive Workers Union said in a news release. Those chapter staffers were placed on administrative leave with layoffs effective in early July.
The Sierra Club's staff union decried the layoffs, which come as the group is combating the Trump administration's efforts to roll back environmental regulations.

'The Sierra Club must be a strong leader against the Trump administration's attempts to eliminate bedrock environmental policies and protections,' said Dylan Plummer, unit representative for the Sierra Club Unit of the Progressive Workers Union. 'It's incomprehensible that the Sierra Club board and executive leadership would again discard the very people who stand on the front lines every single day to carry out this work.'
