Festive event was town's busiest day of the year
A FESTIVE event proved to be a Dorset town's busiest day of the year.
A new footfall counter installed in South Street, Dorchester, has shown that the county town's busiest day of 2024 was the Dorchester Christmas Cracker, which was held on Sunday, December 15, 2024.
The footfall on that day was 19,960, with the day before Christmas, Monday, December 23, coming in second at 18,444.
The third most popular day was Saturday, December 14, with a footfall of 18,383. As well as being a Saturday close to Christmas, it also saw some music events put on in the town - the Joy of Decks was at the Vinyl Van in Brewery Square and a band was playing at Tom Browns.
A spokesman for Dorchester Town Council said: "The busiest day since the counter was installed was the Dorchester Christmas Cracker, on Sunday 15th December.
"Congratulations to the organisers of this event and thank you to everyone who attended."
The funding for the footfall counter came from Dorset Council and it was located in the town's pedestrianised shopping street South Street.
It was installed with help from Goulds Department Stores.
The data from the counter can be viewed on the Dynamic Dorchester section of the Discover Dorchester website.
