Apr. 3—SAN ANGELO — Congressman August Pfluger (TX-11) attended the Vietnam War Commemoration Welcome Home and Pinning Ceremony Friday at Goodfellow Air Force Base. This ceremony is an incredible way to recognize and honor Vietnam War veterans with a commemorative lapel pin. This year's ceremony coincided with the 50th anniversary of the Fall of Saigon and the end of the Vietnam War. "Honoring the brave men and women who have served our nation faithfully is incredibly important to me. Their commitment and sacrifice are unparalleled and it fills me with a deep sense of pride for this country to have the opportunity to recognize these remarkable individuals. A special thank you to the Goodfellow Air Force Base Heritage Committee, the Heritage Chapter — Freedom Through Vigilance Association, the EC-47 History Site, and the incredible staff at Goodfellow for making this ceremony possible," said Pfluger.

Local Veterans Committee sets Vietnam War Commemoration Ceremony Finale

SAN ANGELO, Texas (Concho Valley Homepage) — San Angelo Veterans Committee invites all Vietnam War veterans, surviving spouses and their families to the United States of America 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War Commemoration Welcome Home and Pinning Ceremony at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 28, at Goodfellow Air Force Base's Weyandt-Eddy Memorial Plaza. The San Angelo-based VWC Commemorative Partner Program committee has conducted 'Welcome Home' ceremonies for more than 10 years. The ceremonies are put on to recognize Vietnam War veterans and eligible family members are recognized individually, with an official commemorative lapel pin in a pinning ceremony. This ceremony is planned for May 28, which lands the day prior to National Vietnam War Veterans Day, celebrated on the 29th every year. This year's ceremony holds a special meaning, as it coincides with the 50th anniversary of the Fall of Saigon and the end of the Vietnam War. This year marks the end of the VWC Commemorative Partner Program the EC-47 History Site, Angelo State University, the Heritage Chapter of the Freedom Through Vigilance Association, the All Veterans Council of Tom Green County and other veteran service organizations have hosted 75 ceremonies which have recognized thousands of Vietnam War veterans and surviving spouses for their service to the country. The Veterans Committee encourages Vietnam War veterans and surviving spouses of Vietnam War veterans who haven't been recognized and presented a lapel pin to join them in the ceremonies. Those who have been are welcomed back as a show of gratitude for their service. All military veterans from all branches or status, including their families, also invited. Col. Angelina Maguinness, Commander, 17th Training Wing, and Joe Martin, former USAF ARDF operator and current co-manager of the EC-47 History Site are set to speak at the event. Special tributes to the Army Security Agency's Airborne Radio Direction Finding mission and the South Vietnamese Air Force's intelligence collection efforts during the war are planned. Advance registration to attend the March 28 ceremony is required and can be done by filling out the RSVP form available by clicking here or by requesting a mail registration form by clicking to request the form. The registration deadline is March 20. It is important to note that attendees will need a military or Department of Defense ID card or be listed on a Base Access Listing, to gain entrance to Goodfellow AFB the day of the ceremony, and information for the BAL pass is included in the RSVP form.
