Son Heung-Min brings Europa League trophy to South Korea; K-Pop group to perform in his match in Seoul
Tottenham Hotspur and South Korea forward Son Heung-Min will bring the Europa League trophy to his home country when his club plays a pre-season match in Seoul in August.
Son, who moved to Spurs a decade ago, is the highest Asian goalscorer in the Premier League and helped the side win its first major trophy in 17 years, beating Manchester United in the Europa League final.
Spurs, however, has had a change in guard in management since, replacing coach Ange Postecoglou with Thomas Frank. The former Brentford manager's latest stint will begin with a pre-season in Asia.
Tottenham has a friendly planned in China, South Korea, Germany and then back in the United Kingdom before starting the Premier League.
In Seoul, Tottenham will play Newcastle United — Europa League winner versus EFL League Cup winner — in the Coupang Play Series at the Seoul World Cup Stadium. Both teams, which won silverware after long periods, will exhibit their trophies before the game.
There's another caveat planned during this game.
Popular K-Pop group 2NE1 is officially returning to the big stage. The girl band, comprising CL, Park Bom, Sandara Park, and Minzy, disbanded in 2016, and its last song, titled 'Goodbye', was released eight years ago.
'We are huge fans of Son Heung-Min. It's such an honour to be part of this event. We hope our stage gives fans an unforgettable memory,' 2NE1 said in a statement.
2NE1 will perform during the half-time show of the match, giving fans of South Korean music and football a perfect opportunity to witness both under the same roof.
