Wrexham's Championship rivals looking for new manager
The Canaries have confirmed the appointment of Liam Manning as the club's new head coach after meeting the £800,000 release clause in his contract at Ashton Gate. Manning – who was born in Norwich and had a spell in the Norfolk club's academy – takes over at Carrow Road following the departure of Johannes Hoff Thorup towards the end of last season, with Jack Wilshere having later also left following a brief interim spell in charge. Norwich said Manning's appointment came 'following an extensive recruitment process'. The 39-year-old former MK Dons and Oxford boss guided Bristol City into the Championship play-offs last season, where the Robins were beaten in both legs of the semi-final by Sheffield United. 'I'm privileged and honoured to have the opportunity to work for this fantastic football club. It's a wonderful club with a big history and tradition,' Manning said to Michael Carrick has left his post as Middlesbrough head coach. The former Manchester United midfielder leaves the Teesside outfit after missing out on a play-off place in the season just concluded. Carrick, who previously had a spell as United caretaker manager, had been in charge at Boro since October 2022. Ryan Mason has left Tottenham to take over as West Brom head coach on a three-year deal. Mason quickly emerged as a leading candidate for the Championship club after they dismissed Tony Mowbray on April 21. Spurs' roller-coaster 2024-25 campaign – in which they secured Europa League success – only ended on May 25 and forced West Brom to bide their time but Mason, after a short holiday, decided to accept their offer and take his first step into management. Millwall head coach Alex Neil has signed a new deal with the Lions, who say the contract is 'for the foreseeable future.' Sheffield Wednesday, meanwhile, have been charged by the EFL for 'multiple breaches' relating to the club's payment obligations. In March, the Championship club failed to pay the players their salaries on time due to what were described as 'cashflow' issues. It has since been reported there were also problems with payments for May – which are also said to have included non-playing club staff and other employees. The EFL described the situation as 'clearly concerning', with the governing body 'considering all the options available' and confirmed formal action had now been initiated. 'Sheffield Wednesday Football Club has been charged with multiple breaches of EFL Regulations relating to payment obligations,' a statement from the EFL read. 'The owner of Sheffield Wednesday, Dejphon Chansiri, has also been charged with causing the club to be in breach of EFL Regulations despite his commitment to fund the cash requirements of the club.'

"We will now await the outcome of the Premier League proceedings." In their own statement, Leicester responded: "The club intends to engage co-operatively in this matter now that the Premier League's jurisdiction has been established for the period ending FY24 (financial year 2024)." Earlier this season, Leicester won an appeal that prevented the Premier League from charging them for breaching profit and sustainability rules during their top-flight campaign in 2022-23. Leicester claimed the Premier League did not have jurisdiction to charge them because they were competing in the Championship at the time of the case. The Premier League challenged Leicester's successful appeal, but a tribunal ruled in the club's favour. "The club is pleased that it successfully defended the Premier League's challenge to the Appeal Board decision in relation to the PSR assessment period ending FY23, which was the main focus of these proceedings," Leicester said. The latest financial accusations are another blow for third-bottom Leicester in a dismal season. Foxes boss Ruud van Nistelrooy is waiting to discover if he will remain in charge next term or be sacked for failing to save them from relegation. Leicester have won just six of their 37 league games and finish the season at Bournemouth on Sunday. smg/pi
