East Feliciana jury convicts man of double homicide, attempted murder

BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — Sheriff Jeff Travis announced that an East Feliciana Parish jury returned guilty verdicts on Thursday, April 3, against Deandre Lemond Galmon, 38, of Clinton, for two counts of first-degree murder and one count of attempted first-degree murder. The verdicts came after just under two and a half hours of deliberation. The case was prosecuted by the 20th Judicial District Attorney's Office and stemmed from a violent crime spree that began in April 2020. Galmon was originally arrested on April 28, 2020, in Mt. Juliet, Tennessee, by the Tennessee Highway Patrol. He was taken into custody on an arrest warrant issued by East Feliciana Parish Sheriff's Office detectives, charging him with the first-degree murder of Darold Williams, 64, of Ethel, and the attempted murder of Charles Slack, 48, of Centreville, Mississippi. Following his extradition back to Louisiana, Galmon was also charged with the first-degree murder of Teyhones Elliott, 37, of Clinton. The investigation began on April 24, 2020, when first responders discovered the charred remains of Williams inside a burned mobile home on W. Lakeshore Drive in Ethel. Around the same time, EFPSO was notified that Charles Slack had arrived at a Mississippi hospital with a gunshot wound. On April 29, his body was found nearby at the intersection of Old Liberty Road North and Gilead Road. Autopsy results confirmed that both Williams and Elliott died from gunshot wounds to the head. EFPSO detectives, working with the Louisiana State Fire Marshal's Office, led the multi-agency investigation that ultimately resulted in the arrests of Galmon and Herbert Collins, 43, also of Clinton. Collins pleaded guilty to his role in the crimes prior to Galmon's trial. Sheriff Travis thanked investigators and prosecutors for their diligent work and affirmed the Parish's continued commitment to justice and public safety. Deputies still investigating disappearance of Wesley Dale Morgan; $10K reward available

BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — The East Feliciana Parish Sheriff's Office is still investigating the disappearance of Wesley Dale Morgan, 23 years after he was reported missing. The sheriff's office said Morgan was reported missing by his mother from their home in East Feliciana Parish on May 15, 2001. He was only 2 years old at the time of his disappearance. The FBI, Louisiana State Police and the LSP Crime Lab later joined the investigation. According to Sheriff Jeff Travis, Morgan's mother has not been cleared of suspicion of involvement in her son's disappearance. 'She is the person who reported him missing and is assumed to be the last person to know his whereabouts. She will not talk with investigators on the advice of her attorney, which is her right,' EFPSO said in a Wednesday press release. Investigators follow leads as they become available. A $10,000 reward is available for information leading to Morgan's recovery. EFPSO asks that anyone with information contact any of the investigating agencies in this case. Employee accused of stealing beloved parrot from Louisiana nature preserve

BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — A white-bellied caique parrot named Mango is back at Magnolia Wilds after being stolen during a break-in on Saturday, according to Executive Director Hunter Hullett. The East Feliciana Parish Sheriff's Office (EFPSO) confirmed that Mango was taken in what appeared to be a targeted theft at the nature preserve. Hullett said Mango was the only thing taken during the break-in. Investigators determined that the suspect removed a gate and accessed the unlocked sanctuary. The sheriff's office launched an investigation and located Mango on Monday. 'When Mango was found, he was extremely thirsty and hungry, indicating he had not been properly cared for during his disappearance,' Hullett said. EFPSO confirmed that an employee at Magnolia Wilds was arrested in connection with the theft. Shelby Alford, 29, of Denham Springs, was arrested by the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office on Denham Road. She was booked as a fugitive and will be transported to East Feliciana Parish, where she faces charges of simple burglary and theft over $1,000. Hullett described Mango as a beloved member of the Magnolia Wilds family who frequently visits elementary schools to educate students about parrots and conservation efforts. Authorities have not yet released additional details about the motive behind the theft. The investigation remains ongoing. 10 next-level products to spoil your pet bird Democratic leaders amp up pressure on Senate colleagues to oppose GOP spending bill: 'Stand with us' Johnson weighs options after 'stubborn' Luna forces vote on 'unconstitutional' parental proxy voting Lawsuit claims Girl Scout cookies contain 'heavy metals,' pesticides 4-year-old calls 911 to say 'bad mom' ate his ice cream and needed to go to jail Woman hit by two vehicles in Baton Rouge, police investigate Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc.
