Petroleum Minister inaugurates TAQA's new integrated operations center in Cairo

Executives from production companies and international energy firms operating in Egypt were also present. Egypt, Shard Capital review progress at $7bln Mediterranean Petrochemicals Complex project
Egypt - Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi met with representatives of British company Shard Capital to review the progress at the $7 billion Mediterranean Petrochemicals Complex project in New Alamein, as per a statement. The meeting followed the signing of a joint framework agreement with Saudi Al-Qahtani Group last February during the EGYPES event. Badawi highlighted the importance of the project in achieving the objectives of the second pillar of the ministry's strategy to maximize added value and expand petrochemicals production. He added that the project has huge potential to generate significant economic returns for Egypt and the region. Furthermore, the two sides discussed the ongoing cooperation with Honeywell regarding the technology license used in the project. Sisi instructs advancing gas discoveries, attracting foreign investments in petroleum sector

During a meeting on Sunday with Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi, Sisi instructed continued efforts to attract more foreign investments in the petroleum sector to meet rising local demand. He highlighted the incentives provided by the state to develop gas fields and intensify exploration and production processes, the Egyptian Presidency said in a statement. The meeting addressed new drilling and exploration activities, particularly in the Fayoum 5 oil and gas field, and highlighted several recently signed agreements to advance exploration efforts. CYPRUS GAS AGREEMENTS Discussions also covered cooperation with Cyprus in the gas sector, focusing on maximizing benefits from discovered gas reserves in Cyprus's Exclusive Economic Zone, particularly in the Cronos and Aphrodite fields. This cooperation enables the transportation of discovered gas from Cypriot waters to Egypt, either for utilization in the domestic market or for liquefaction and export to global markets, the Presidency said. During the Egypt Energy Show (EGYPES) 2025 held in Cairo last February, Egypt and Cyprus signed agreements allowing for the export of gas from the Cypriot offshore fields of Cronos and Aphrodite to Egyptian facilities. The Cypriot gas will be liquified through the existing Egyptian infrastructure, allowing for subsequent export to Europe. Discussions also encompassed regional integration plans for developing Cypriot gas discoveries, specifically the Aphrodite field, utilising Egypt's gas sector infrastructure. This follows an agreement signed at the Egypt Energy Show (EGYPES) 2025. Yassin Mohamed, Executive Managing Director of the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS); Kelly Howe, Vice President of LNG at Shell; Dalia El Gabry, Country Chair Shell Egypt; and Azza Shalabaya, Head of Corporate Relations at Shell Egypt, also attended the meeting. Shell's ongoing operations and efforts to develop gas resources in the West Nile Delta deep-water areas, including Phases 10 and 11, to enhance natural gas production, were reviewed during the meeting. Badawi commended Shell's commitment to its operations in Egypt, despite existing challenges, as well as its expansion plans and the successful projects implemented, which have added more wells to Egypt's natural gas production map. He also noted that, in parallel with efforts to increase gas production, there is an integrated approach to the energy sector, in cooperation with the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy, to enhance renewable energy's contribution to power generation. Work is also underway to strengthen electrical interconnection with Saudi Arabia, which is expected to reduce energy import costs, alleviate financial burdens, and increase efficiency across the energy sector, particularly in the petroleum and gas sectors. Cremers expressed his pleasure in visiting Egypt and praised Shell's achievements in the Egyptian natural gas sector. He affirmed Shell's commitment to its investments in Egypt, with an ambitious work agenda.
