Worst still - the next night that continued Robert's return saw a further 600,000 viewers switch off. The ITV soaps both suffered a blow at this year's British Soap Awards with Emmerdale winning just two awards and Coronation Street on compared to EastEnders' eight and Hollyoaks' three.

Emmerdale's Amy Walsh reveals new job alongside EastEnders star husband
EMMERDALE'S Amy Walsh revealed her exciting new career move alongside her EastEnders star husband. Emmerdale favourite has opened up about her surprising new job - and she's teaming up with none other than her EastEnders star husband, Toby Alexander Smith. 5 Amy and her hubby want to inspire fresh talent with their new drama school Credit: instagram/@thewalshacademynorth 5 Amy expands the acting school that her sister first opened in London Credit: instagram/@thewalshacademynorth Taking to Instagram, the soap power couple announced they will be launching a drama school - in a bid to inspire fresh talent. Toby said: "The Walsh Academy North will open on 2nd June 2025 and provide speech and drama classes for children aged from 7 to 16." Amy chimed in and revealed that herself and Toby will be the acting coaches. She added that their aim is not to make every child a TV star - but to offer a safe space from them to express themselves and meet new friends to have fun with. The Walsh Academy was established in London in 2021 by Amy Walsh's sister, Sally Sheppard Walsh. They wrote: "The academy has flourished and the students are THRIVING! That is why we are a thrilled to be bringing The Walsh Academy… to the NORTH!" Emmerdale actress Amy is best known for playing Tracy Robinson, while Toby played the EastEnders villain Gray Atkins. Gray's exit on the BBC soap involved his arrest and imprisonment after his murders and domestic abuse was uncovered. The soap stars first met in 2019 while in the audience of Strictly Come Dancing and quickly moved in together ahead of the coronavirus pandemic. Two years after they met, they welcomed their first child Bonnie Mae in December 2021. Emmerdale's Amy Walsh admits relationship struggle as she 'barely sees' husband a year after wedding In August 2023, they got engaged during a romantic holiday in Ibiza. In September 2023, they tied the knot in a star-studded ceremony in front of family and friends in Montenegro. She told OK!: 'It was honestly the most perfect day. It surpassed all my expectations and more. I felt so surprisingly present on the day and loved every second. Now I'm just in pure bliss. "Our family and friends are really important to us and we wanted everyone to have the best time. 'They all made such an effort to come out there for us. Friends left their kids for the first time and spent their money getting there. We wanted it to be really special.' Real-life soap couples Soaps are renowned for their sweet and scandalous romances – but it's not just in scripted storylines where love is blossoming. A number of our favourite small-screen actors have fallen for co-stars and soapland rivals when the cameras have stopped rolling. Max Parker and Kris Mochrie Despite playing brothers Luke and Lee Posner on Emmerdale, the pair never actually shared any scenes together. But the pair still fell in love after meeting on set. Max and Kris got together in 2020, moving in together later than same year and got engaged in 2022. In a sweet Instagram post, the couple confirmed they're planning a 2025 wedding. Beth Cordingly and Ian Kelsey Beth, who plays Ruby Fox-Miligan, announced her love for her co-star Ian Kelsey, who played Dean Glover, shortly after she joined Emmerdale at the beginning of 2024. 'I am very in love with Ian and very happy. I think it really does work him being an actor too. He has been so fantastic," she gushed. Laura Norton and Mark Jordan Kerry Wyatt and Daz Eden actors Laura and Mark met on the set of Emmerdale in 2014. The couple, who got engaged in 2018, told Loose Women they spent a long time deciding whether they should "just stay as friends." Although it seems they were meant to be and the pair now share two children together. Zoe Henry and Jeff Hordley Emmerdale favourites Zoe and Jeff, who play Rhonda Goskirk and Cain Dingle met at drama college in 1994 and have been together ever since. While working together might be too much for some couples, that's definitely not the case for Zoe and Jeff. Zoe previously told The Sun: "Working on the same show as Jeff also helps because if one of us is having a bad day then the other will completely understand." Lesley Dunlop and Chris Chittell Lesley and Chris are another Dales romantic success story. Unlike some of the other soap stars, the pair who play Brenda Walker and Eric Pollard, are together on and off screen, officially tying the knot in 2016. They also adore working together, but have clear home-work boundaries. "We make a point of not talking about Emmerdale when we're at home, though – that would be just too sad, wouldn't it?" Chris revealed. Sally Carman and Joe Duttine Abi Franklin and Tim Metcalfe actors Sally and Joe got together after meeting on the set of Coronation Street in 2017 and they tied the knot in July 2022. But unlike some of the Emmerdale stars, Sally and Joe prefer that their characters don't interact much. Sally previously admitted it "would be horrendous" to work on a storyline with Joe because "he's too funny." Anthony Cotton and Peter Eccleston Sean Tully may have been unlucky in love on the cobbles, but in real life Antony's met his Prince Charming. The soap star started dating long-term partner Peter in 2005, after they met when he was working as an assistant props buyer on Corrie. Jane Danson and Robert Beck Corrie favourite Jane Danson tied the knot with soap star Robert Beck in 2005. The actress, who plays Leanne Battersby, shares two children, Harry and Sam, with the former Brookside star. During their marriage, Robert has also done a stint in Weatherfield playing criminal Jimmy Dockerson. Caroline Harding and Chris Gascoyne Chris, who played pub landlord Peter Barlow, married soap star Caroline in 2002. Although she is best known as an Emmerdale star, Caroline did visit her husband at work when she did a two-episode stint as doctor on the Manchester soap in 2020. The couple share a daughter called Belle, plus two children, Pip and Freddie from Caroline's previous marriage. Nadine Mulkerrin and Rory Douglas Speed Nadine Mulkerrin, and Rory Doulas Speed are known for their Hollyoaks alter egos Cleo McQueen and Joel Dexter. The loved-up pair got engaged on a December 2018 trip to Amsterdam - just over a year after they announced they were dating. They now share two kids, Reggie and Dougie. Sophie Austin and Shayne Ward Former Hollyoaks star Sophie, whose best known for playing villain Lindsay Butterfield, was introduced to singer and ex-Corrie star Shayne through mutual friends. She gave birth to their daughter Willow in December 2016 and they welcomed a son in 2022. Among the guests was Amy's famous sister, Girls Aloud singer Kimberley Walsh, who performed at the ceremony. As did EastEnders star Shona McGarty, who sang a duet with TikTok sensation Sonny Tennet. Emmerdale favourites Natalie Ann Jamieson, Olivia Bromley and Louisa Clein also made the trip to Eastern Europe to watch their friend say her vows. The happy couple chose to wed at the picturesque 17th century Talici Hill Rustic Villas - located at the foot of a mountain range. Amy had six bridesmaids and there were eight pageboys involved in the family occasion. In an emotional moment, Amy's dad, who is living with terminal cancer, walked her down the aisle. Toby called the moment "poignant". However, seven months after marriage, Amy admitted that married life hasn't been easy due to the couple's manic work schedules. She told stand-in Lorraine host Christine Lampard: "I've barely seen him since we got married so... we do feel like newlyweds. "We've not even been together that long, in the grand scheme of things, so our relationship is still quite new and fresh but when you throw in a toddler in the mix and work commitments then it's crazy, but we're trying to get some time for each other. It's hard." Amy revealed she and Toby were like passing ships. She continued: "Then I went full throttle into a massive storyline. I barely saw either of them, and he then flew to Bulgaria and did a film out there and it's been constantly like that and it is a struggle. I don't have family around me to help. It's tricky, but you do it." 5 The couple got together just before the first coronavirus lockdown Credit: Instagram/@amyvwalsh 5 They got married in a star-studded ceremony in Montenegro Credit: Instagram/@amyvwalsh

Love Island's Olivia Hawkins shares steamy snog with Celebs Go Dating co-star at Ibiza pool party
OLIVIA HAWKINS was spotted yesterday snogging her Celebs Go Dating co-star Louis Russell. Love Islander Olivia and Too Hot To Handle hunk Louis are shooting the new series of E4's dating show in sunny Ibiza. 9 9 9 They set tongues wagging by flirting on social media before jetting out to the Spanish island – then wasted no time getting to know each other as filming began. They joined co-stars including Christine McGuinness and Kerry Katona at a pool party but had eyes, and lips, for only each other. A show insider said: 'It usually takes a few weeks for things to spice up but not with these two. 'Within 48 hours of arriving in Ibiza the sexual spark between them was obvious. "They clearly couldn't resist each other.' EMMERDALE'S KILLER PLOTLINE 9 9 EMMERDALE is bringing back a major character for a shock return – and has gone to great lengths to keep their identity secret. But today I can exclusively reveal it is Robert Sugden — rejoining the ITV soap next month for a limited stint after sex years away. Actor Ryan Hawley, who has already filmed the scenes, returns as his character's former husband Aaron Dingle, played by Danny Miller, prepares to tie the knot with Robert's brother John Sugden (Oliver Farnworth). Fans know John is a secret killer, so that Aaron is now in serious danger from his twisted husband-to-be. A source said: 'It's the biggest secret in soapland but Robert is returning to Emmerdale. Ryan has a lot of respect for the show and its fans and really wanted to give them a treat so agreed to come back for a brief stint. Rob Sudgen gets angry as police say they've released Victoria's rapist on Emmerdale 'It's going to be a huge surprise for fans, who have missed Robert desperately since Ryan quit. 'Nothing was seen as being too extreme to keep the secret, with fake names on scripts, smuggling him into the studios and keeping everything very tight.' The Sun revealed in 2019 that Ryan had quit the show he first joined in 2014. He was written out in an explosive storyline that saw him accidentally kill Lee Posner (Kris Mochrie), who had raped Robert's sister Victoria (Isabel Hodgins). Robert hit Lee, played by Kristopher Ian Mochrie, with a shovel and he fell, smashing his head on a rock. Robert pleaded guilty to the attack and was sentenced to 14 years. But it later emerged that Lee's death could have been caused by a fight he had with his brother Luke (Max Parker) on the day of his death — leaving the door open for Robert's potential release. C4 DOC PROBES P DIDDY 9 AS the P Diddy trial starts next week, a new TV documentary will dig into the US rapper's life and times. Diddy: In Plain Sight, tomorrow week, will include new interviews with one of his ex-bodyguards as well as former porn star Adria English – talking about Diddy's parties and her own experience with him. I revealed earlier this year that the documentary was being made by Lion TV. Diddy, who goes on trial on Monday charged with sex trafficking, racketeering and transportation to engage in prostitution, is the latest star to have his murky past probed by C4, with Russell Brand and Marilyn Manson also featured. But this doc may be the most shocking. SHOW IS LOSING THE PLOT 9 FIRST they scrapped Blue Peter's live shows – now the Beeb are 'leaving behind' the show's famous garden, so beloved of fans. Although it isn't being done away with, it will remain at MediaCity in Salford while the show itself shifts to a new studio in Manchester city centre. Bosses insist they will still film in the garden, but it won't be like the old days when the presenters could nip into the studio's 'back yard' to tend bulbs and the fish pond. Blue Peter commissioning chief Sarah Muller said: 'The move to the new studio will provide creative locations and visual options that a whole new generation will love.' I bet legendary Blue Peter gardener Percy Thrower, would have been less than pleased were he still alive. E-RACERS ON OHM STRAIGHT 9 FORMULA E is the world's fastest-growing motorsport, but what about the drivers of the all-electric cars? New Prime Video series Formula E: Driver meets the stars of the track as they go about their day-to-day lives away from the sport. Featured are Dan Ticktum, Jake Dennis, Antonio Felix Da Costa and Mitch Evans – and they aren't worried about what people will think about them. Antonio said: 'I hope that people think it's crazy or bad. If people think, 'Wow, that's outrageous', then they'll just tell their friends, and then they will come and watch.' Dan agreed: 'Luckily, I don't think there's much I haven't already given away about myself. 'I don't think I said anything too dreadful, or anything that was outrageous!' Formula E: Driver is available to stream now. AMAZON BONDS WORLD 9 AMAZON looks to be keeping its word in respecting James Bond's legacy – by airing the entire collection of 007 films for fans around the world. From June 1, Amazon's streaming service MGM+ will feature all 25 movies, from Sean Connery classic Dr No to Daniel Craig 's No Time To Die. The deal will see Roger Moore, Pierce Brosnan, Timothy Dalton, George Lazenby and David Niven return to screens for a limited period. Amazon, owned by Jeff Bezos, was handed the creative rights to 007 earlier this year, giving it power over casting and content. It could mean the series gets its first ever American Bond. Amazon's 007 catalogue joins the steaming giant's other movie franchises including Outlander, Rocky, Legally Blonde, Teen Wolf and Stargate. PARAMOUNT+'s new psychological thriller Little Disasters hit screens on May 22. The series stars Diane Kruger and Jo Joyner as Jess and Liz, friends whose bond begins to unravel when the former takes her baby to hospital with a head injury that she is unable to explain. EASTENDERS star Navin Chowdhry and Emmerdale's Ned Porteous go against Calum Lill and Tyler Conti for the British Soap Awards' Villain of the Year. Nominations were released ahead of the ceremony on May 31. Vote for your favourites at

Watch the moment Emmerdale's Dr Liam is whacked over the head in unprovoked attack – but he has no idea who did it
EMMERDALE'S Dr Liam Cavanagh was left with a nasty surprise when he was whacked over the head with a piece of wood in a shock attack. It is the THIRD major head injury the GP has suffered in just weeks as he continues to fall victim to a slew of unfortunate events. 4 4 4 In the latest episode of Emmerdale, fans watched as Liam found himself clubbed around the head before being left knocked out on the floor. Whilst Liam was left with no clue as to who caused his injuries, fans of the ITV soap opera witnessed John Sugden commit the unprovoked attack. John has been left seething with Liam after he demoted him from working with patients in the medical centre to being the receptionist after he made a huge error with one of the patients. Whilst John is an army medic, his lack of training for a GP surgery led Liam to make the decision for the time being. But this rattled John who has been left desperate to get his old job back in a bid to prove his worth. Fans know he has a 'hero complex' and is fixated on saving people in order to be looked upon favourably. It swung right back into action when John made sure he was conveniently able to be called upon by Liam's worried fiance Chas who begged for his medical help. John then rushed with her to the scene in order to treat Liam who was left admitting he was none the wiser as to who brutally assaulted him from behind. Sheepish John managed to remain calm with no one appearing to have any clear or obvious reason to suspect him of foul play. It comes just weeks after John purposefully made Jacob Gallagher have an allergic reaction to a drink in order to save him. John tampered with two coffees in order to ensure nut allergic Jacob drank from a cup with almond milk before switching the labels back as to not raise suspicion. It saw Jacob collapse before John was able to revive him amid the horror ordeal. Meanwhile, for Liam, this is his third attack in less than two months. In February, he suffered a traumatic brain injury during the limo crash on the frozen lake which saw him raced to hospital. Then, just weeks later, he found himself involved in a woodland scuffle with Ella Forster. Now, with his latest attack - Liam will begin to suspect that someone is really out to get him. But when will the Dales residents discover that John is truly responsible? Biggest soap stunts By Conor O'Brien Soaps are no stranger to dramatic stunts in the storylines. Not only do these moments create a spectacle for viewers, they also fundamentally change characters' lives. Here is a look at some of the biggest soap stunts from over the years. CORONATION STREET Tram crash (2010): The ITV soap marked its 50th anniversary with a intense tram crash - and live episode to boot. Overall, the crash and its effects were broadcast across a week in December 2010. Its resulting chaos saw regular characters Ashley Peacock (Steven Arnold) and Molly Dobbs (Vicky Binns) die. Richard Hillman tries to kill the Platts (2003): Of all the men unlucky-in-love Gail tied the knot with, Richard Hillman (Brian Capron) is probably the one she regrets most in hindsight. In 2003, murderer Richard tried to kill his step-family: first by gassing them with car fumes and then driving Gail (Helen Worth), Sarah (Tina O'Brien), David (Jack P. Shepherd) and Bethany (Amy and Emily Walton) into a canal. EASTENDERS Queen Vic fire (2010): In September 2010, EastEnders bid farewell to matriarch Peggy Mitchell (Barbara Windsor) as a permanent fixture on the soap - she returned as a guest before the character's death in 2016. In the build-up to her initial exit, Peggy had trapped crack cocaine-addicted son Phil (Steve McFadden) in the Queen Vic. However, he escaped and set the boozer on fire. Bus crash (2017): In April 2017, a total of 11 Albert Square residents had their lives at risk in a terrifying bus crash. The stunt saw a double decker bus - the 764 to Barking - lose control and crash through the Albert Square market before hitting a low-level bridge. Notable passengers at the time included Denise Fox (Diane Parish) and Louise Mitchell (Tilly Keeper). EMMERDALE James Barton's death (2016): Interestingly about James' (Bill Ward) death was that it came in a spiral of events. After wife Emma (Gillian Kearney) locked James up in a jealous rage, he escaped and they tussled on a bridge over the bypass. Emma pushed him and James fell into traffic, in turn causing a 12-vehicle pile up, As well as James dying, key characters including Ashley Thomas (John Middleton) and Rhona Goskirk (Zoe Henry) were injured.
