Kern Medical, CSUB to cohost event highlighting surgery residency program, pre-med opportunities

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Kern Medical and California State University, Bakersfield will host an event on April 23 to inform CSUB students about the different opportunities in the medical field. CSUB announced a collaborative initiative with Kern Medical that hopes to strengthen the hospital's surgery residency program and support future medical professionals through the university's pre-med pathway. They also aim to highlight research opportunities, CSUB said in a press release. The event is scheduled for April 23 from 9 a.m. to noon at the CSUB campus located at 9001 Stockdale Highway, in front of the Student Union, according to CSUB. Kern County Cancer Foundation hosting 'Teaming Up Against Cancer' event Researchers and surgeons with Kern Medical will speak to students and lead interactive activities to help foster their interest in a career in medicine. CSUB said students will be able to: Gain firsthand insights into the field of surgery and medical research Learn about Kern Medical's surgery residency program Connect with experienced surgeons and researchers and ask them questions Participate in hands-on activities that simulate surgical procedures and research methodologies Discover different paths available through CSUB's pre-med advising Explore research opportunities through Kern Medical programs, including: STAR (Surgery, Trauma & ACS Research) EMRAP (Emergency Medicine Research Assistant Program) SIMRAP (Simulation Research Assistant Program) VFI (Valley Fever Institute) Never miss a story: Make your homepage All CSUB students are welcome to attend, especially those interested in pursuing a career in medicine and medical research, CSUB said.
