Bond set at $3.2M for Walker man arrested on 32 counts of child porn

BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — Police arrested a Walker man charged with 32 counts of child porn possession on May 15. Walker Police Chief David Addison said the arrest of Brian Michael Louviere, 52, was made after a credible witness shared information. A months-long investigation started in November 2024, leading to detectives securing a search warrant for Louviere's home and devices. 'It is disturbing to learn that there are people in our community who engage in this type of criminality,' Addison said. 'We want our citizens to know, however, that we are being diligent in seeking out such people and that we will aggressively pursue them, investigate, and lock them up. We do not want child predators in Walker.' Louviere was booked into the Livingston Parish Detention Center on a $3.2 million bond. Police said an investigation is ongoing and additional charges are possible. District attorney challenges ‘lenient' sentence for Louisiana twin brothers in money laundering scheme

BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — 18th Judicial District Attorney Tony Clayton has appealed the sentence for the McCormick brothers in the First Circuit Court of Appeal, who faced money laundering charges. In Dec. 2024, Robert and Thomas McCormick, both 51, were found guilty of multiple charges, including: Conspiracy to commit money laundering. Money laundering. Conspiracy to commit malfeasance in office. Conspiracy to commit filing false public documents. Conspiracy to commit felony theft. Conspiracy to commit prohibited splitting of profits. On May 9, they were sentenced to three years of probation as well as paying restitution for $214,262 to the State Fire Marshal's Office, $5,000 each to the Louisiana Legislative Auditor's Office, and paying court fees. Clayton believes the sentencing was too 'lenient.' The district attorney's office asked for jail time for the brothers and almost $850,000 in restitution. In addition, the Legislative Auditor's Office requested almost $98,000 in restitution. In a press release, Clayton mentioned that similar cases received more 'just sentences.' 'The McCormick brothers made over $800,000 off their money laundering scheme and milked the state and its citizens of hundreds of thousands of dollars,' said Clayton. 'Yet they were sentenced to only probation and to pay only $214,000 in restitution. We feel this sentence is excessively lenient for these crimes. They profited greatly from this illegal scheme. We feel strongly that the sentence should reflect the severity of these crimes.' According to the DA, Robert was an employee of the Louisiana State Fire Marshal's Office and Thomas was an attorney. The pair worked together to buy emergency supplies at a lower price and bid the items to the state for a higher price. These supplies included water, food, ice, and portable restrooms during state emergencies after hurricanes. Pit bulls rescued from neglect in Louisiana to go up for adoption

BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — The Humane Society of Louisiana (HSLA) says 42 pitbulls are ready to be adopted after they were saved from mistreatment. On March 14, Concordia Parish deputies searched a Clayton home and found the dogs tied to trees in connection with a dogfighting investigation. According to the HSLA, tipped-over barrels were the dogs' only shelter, dozens stood in mud and water up to their ankles, and all showed signs of neglect. Maurice Sheppard, 44, was arrested and charged with 43 counts of animal cruelty on March 26. 'We are very grateful for the Concordia Sheriff's Office and the different humane organizations that lent their workforce, expertise, and resources to this important case. It sends a clear signal to other animal abusers that law enforcement will arrest them and confiscate their animals. We also hope people will donate toward their care and medical support,' HSLA Director Jeff Dorson said. The dogs' caretakers said all the dogs are very friendly and would make great pets. The dogs are currently being cared for in East Feliciana Parish. A GoFundMe was created to raise funds for medical care and sterilization for all of the dogs. The adoption fees are $150 per dog, which includes being fixed and vaccinated. If the adoption process is approved, the HSLA can transport them to their new homes.
