2026 Volvo EX30 Cross Country Makes the All-Terrain Trim Electric
The 2026 is the first electric model to get the brand's rugged Cross Country treatment. The new EX30 CC has standard all-wheel drive, a raised ride height, skid plates, and available all-terrain tires. Volvo hasn't yet announced pricing, but we expect the rugged to cost around $50K when it goes on sale later this year. When Jack Frost—or Kung Bore, his Swedish title—arrives in Lapland, it can be a nasty affair. Winters are frigid, dry, and unsympathetic; noses turn blue, breath lingers in the air, and oversized down jackets become a regional uniform. Ice-caked roads and blood-freezing temperatures are merely obstacles to work around for the Swedes. Volvo is native to the country and well-versed in making vehicles that can handle hostile conditions. The 2026 Volvo EX30 Cross Country is the latest to get the brand's all-terrain-ready Cross Country treatment. It's also the first electric model to wear the badge. The Cross Country nameplate has largely been reserved for Volvo station wagons, appearing on models such as the V60 and V90. All of them have featured standard all-wheel drive, a raised ride height, and rugged bodywork, making them more capable in adverse conditions and SUV-like enough to expand their market appeal. Volvo has experimented with some other segment-blending Cross Country models as well, from the V40 Cross Country hatchback to the S60 Cross Country sedan. While the V40 CC stuck around for seven model years, the S60 CC bit the dust after just three. When it comes to the Cross Country version of the EX30, it features the same electric powertrain as the standard dual-motor all-wheel-drive model, producing 422 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque. Juicing its electric motors is a 64.0-kWh battery pack that Volvo estimates can deliver 264 miles of range on a single charge. When the electrons run out and the EX30 CC is plugged into a DC fast-charger, Volvo claims it can go from 10 to 80 percent in 26 minutes. Of course, the Cross Country recipe remains nearly the same as it always has been. Its ride is raised 0.7 inch compared with the standard SUV. Volvo also softened its springs and rear anti-roll bar for added comfort and more predictable low-grip handling. Front and rear skid plates protect its belly, and flared overfenders give the little off-roader a more assertive appearance. The Cross Country EX30 also has exclusive 18-inch wheels that can be had with available all-terrain tires for an extra fee. So, despite an unfamiliar powertrain, it's business as usual. The EX30 CC also adds unique boreal flair inside and out. Its front and rear body panels feature a dark grey color that adds dimension to the EV's otherwise one-note exterior. The front one adds texture too, with a topographic etching of the Kebnekaise mountain range in Arctic Sweden. The EX30 CC also wears its heritage on its door panels, which were designed to resemble a type of granite stone native to its home country. We recently got a taste of the EX30 Cross Country's specialized capabilities on rather unique terrain in its native environment. Driving on over a meter of ice atop a frozen lake in Lulea, Sweden, the Cross Country felt in its element and remarkably composed. While studded Michelin X-Ice North tires provided our test car with massive traction, its nimble chassis is what gave us the confidence to flick the CC into slick corners without the fear of frosty repercussions. Its cushy springs ate up icy bumps and its 10-percent-softer rear anti-roll bar helped make quick direction changes smooth and pleasantly uneventful. On particularly slippery sections, the Cross Country's electronic stability control system did a good job of tempering torque and keeping the car moving in the right direction but admittedly we didn't keep it on for long. Even with ESC and traction control partially off, it was exceedingly easy to catch slides and maintain control while sending it sideways on the sub-zero test track. Since we didn't have an opportunity to drive the EX30 Cross Country on dry pavement, it is hard to say how its tweaks will translate to non-winter conditions. But even on ice, it is obvious that the Cross Country is tuned to ride comfortably and handle playfully on any surface. To encourage customers to embrace the EX30 Cross Country's adventurous side, Volvo wants customers to think of the EX30 Cross Country as an experience rather than just an SUV, so it will offer a "Cross Country Experience" package along with the purchase. Part of the package includes special incentives for outdoorsy accessories, including discounts on the aforementioned A/T tires, a roof basket, and mud flaps. There's also an opportunity to rent out a fully equipped cabin in Swedish Lapland to experience firsthand the conditions that inspired the EX30 Cross Country. Volvo says that if you book the cabin, which is available from February 21 to March 21, 2025, it will have a car waiting for you and will recommend a selection of outdoor activities to fully immerse you in the Scandinavian winter experience. The 2026 Volvo EX30 Cross Country is expected to go on sale in the United States sometime later this year. U.S. customers only recently started taking delivery of the standard EX30 Twin Motor Performance models after a whirlwind of changes were made to the rollout schedule since last June. With underpinnings borrowed from Chinese parent company Geely, standard EX30 models were initially manufactured in Zhangjiakou, China—making them susceptible to tariffs recently imposed on Chinese-built EVs by the U.S. government. While it is unclear where the EX30 Cross Country is being built, Volvo is moving production of U.S.-bound EX30 models to its factory in Ghent, Belgium, this spring. The move could reduce import woes and keep costs down for both the standard EX30 and Cross Country models. Volvo hasn't yet released pricing for the new EX30 Cross Country. However, we expect it will cost more than the current Twin Motor Performance trim it's based on. Since that model starts at $46,195, the Cross Country will likely approach the $50,000 mark. Volvo EX30 Cross Country Gives Electric SUV an Arctic Flavor
2026 Volvo EX30 Cross Country revealed with off-road trim and hardware, promising 422 hp and 400 lb-ft of torque. A raised ride height, front and rear skid plates, and special wheels headline the list of changes to Volvo's electric hatch. The dual-motor electric hatch will arrive on sale later this year, joining the standard dual-motor version of the EX30. Volvo has taken the wraps off the EX30 Cross Country, giving its smallest and most electric hatch the off-road uniform. The Cross Country flavor features a dual-motor layout good for 422 hp and 400 lb-ft of torque, courtesy of a 64.0-kWh battery. This powertrain is a carryover from the standard EX30 Twin Motor model so Volvo hasn't tried to make the EV hatch more (or less) rambunctious, already featuring a 0-to-60 mph sprint time of 3.4 seconds. True to the classic recipe, Volvo has added flared wheel arch extensions and skid plates front and back, while also raising the ride height by 0.7 inches. The CC variants will also wear unique 18-inch wheels, with optional all-terrain tires. Viewed from the front and back, the EX30 CC will be easy to tell apart from its stock siblings by dark-colored front and rear grey fascia plates. The front fascia, in particular, will feature the relief of Sweden's Kebnekaise mountain range, in a nod to the country's Arctic region. But for the most part, Volvo has dialed down the distinctive cladding we remember from Cross Country models of the 1990s and 2000s. Just what the hardware tweaks will do to the EPA range has not been revealed just yet, with official EPA numbers slated to be published closer to the start of sales. In standard form, the EX30 manages to squeeze 253 miles out of its 64.0-kWh battery. "We launched our first Cross Country car over 25 years ago, and this concept of durable and all-weather cars is core to the Volvo brand," said Jim Rowan, Volvo Cars' CEO. "In Sweden we face harsh winters, but we also like to make the most of them by getting out and exploring our amazing nature, even when it's minus 20 Celsius outside." The EX30 thus becomes the smallest Volvo to ever get the CC treatment, but until just a few years ago buyers in Europe also had the V40 Cross Country five-door hatch on their menus, with Volvo having kept that particular pocket-sized off-road model out of North America. Prices for the EX30 CC will be announced closer to the start of sales, but we don't expect a major hike from the price of the dual-motor EX30 model, which starts at $46,195. As such, we expect the EX30 CC to land somewhere around the $50,000 mark, occupying the top spot in the ladder. Volvo has not mentioned a specific timeframe for the start of sales, but we expect it to arrive in dealerships before the next winter rolls around (if available at all in your region). The single-motor version of the standard EX30, meanwhile, is still scheduled to arrive a little later and should carry a starting price of about $36,000. Once it arrives stateside, the EX30 Cross Country should not face too many direct competitors, as electric crossovers with off-road trimmings are usually a segment or two larger at the moment. But the Hyundai Ioniq 5 XRT will certainly be one direct challenger. Will we see much demand for small EV hatches with dual-motor layouts and modest off-road skills this decade, or will this remain a niche category? Let us know what you think in the comments below.

Volvo EX30 Cross Country Is An Adorable Electric Off-Roader With Raised Suspension And Rugged Looks
Volvo's compact EX30 electric crossover is getting the Swedish automaker's Cross Country treatment for 2026, and that means the popular little car is getting all sorts of soft-roading goodies like more plastic cladding, standard all-wheel drive and a slight suspension raise that'll let you pretend its a real off-roaders. That's all most people want at the end of the day anyway. Plus, it keeps the great looks and practicality of the non-Cross Country EX30. Volvo is aiming this car right at 'weekend explorers,' and not all-out off-road enthusiasts. That's not exactly a surprise, though. It isn't like the Cross County Volvos of the past have been world-beating off-roaders. Pretty much, customers can expect a bit more black cladding, some new skid plates, exclusive 18-inch wheels wrapped in all-terrain tires with chunkier arches and a 0.7-inch suspension lift. Out back, the rear suspension has seen some revisions to its spring rate and damper settings to better deal with bumpy terrain. Each of these changes on their own won't amount to much, but if you put them together, you get a really handsome little package in the EX30 Cross Country. The front and rear facias of the EX30 CC get an exclusive dark cladding, and the front comes with a pretty neat touch: a unique piece of artwork that shows the topography of the Kebnekaise mountain range in Arctic Sweden. How neat is that? On the inside, the EX30 Cross Country doesn't stray too far from the base car. The interior still looks to be a very warm and inviting place to be. It's very Volvo with sleek tech (now including Google Built-In) and storage solutions all over the place. Of course, this wouldn't be a Volvo without tons of safety equipment, but it's not like that's big news. Underneath, the EX30 CC should be fairly similar to the regular EX30. Volvo says it'll be able to DC fast charge charge from 10 to 80 percent in just 26 minutes. The EPA hasn't rated the little crossover yet, but non-Cross Country EX30s get about 250 miles of range, according to the EPA. You can expect the EX30 Cross Country to be marginally worse than that because of the off-road bits. We also don't know power numbers just yet. Volvo says the conventional dual-motor EX30 makes 422 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque, and those motors are fed through a 69 kWh battery. In terms of pricing, well, that's a question mark as well. The regular EX30 dual motor starts at a tick over $46,000, so you can probably expect the Cross Country to be a bit more than that. Volvo's EX30 has proven to be incredibly popular for Volvo. The automaker sold nearly 100,000 of them in 2024, making it the struggling company's fourth best-selling vehicle and best-selling EV. It makes sense. I mean, just look at it. It's adorable and a good value. Adding in a soft-roader component was the next logical thing to do, and I'm sure they'll sell just as well.
