The 2024 regular season was one of the more challenging ones for Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver DeVonta Smith.
It all worked out in the end, though.

Smith missed four games last season with several different injuries. It caused him to have a career-low in yards receiving (833) and targets (89).
The playoffs were a different story, though. Smith caught 16 passes for 190 yards and a touchdown during Philly's run through Super Bowl LIX.
And …
The Alabama product saved his best game for last.
Smith caught four passes for 69 yards during the Eagles' 40-22 win over the Kansas City Chiefs. His 46-yard touchdown late in the third quarter effectively ended the game.
The moment was made even more special for Smith because the game was played in New Orleans, his hometown.

Months later, Smith has been able to reflect on how special a moment it truly was.
'The emotion, I really don't know,' Smith said during minicamp practice this week. 'I just kind of came out of the tunnel, and it kind of hit me. I guess it was just the feeling of being back home.
"My grandfather doesn't come up here for games, so him being able to see me in the NFL, the biggest game there is, and him just being him there, think that kind of set in with me."
Towards the end of Philadelphia's dominant win, Smith was visibly emotional while hugging quarterback Jalen Hurts. It is a reminder of the passionate kind of person and player he has been for the Eagles since they drafted him in 2021.

Smith may not be Philadelphia's top receiving target. That title belongs to All-Pro A.J. Brown. He is an integral part of the offense, though, and one of the biggest heartbeats of the franchise.
