Pirates' season comes to an end after falling to Coastal Carolina in the Conway Regional
CONWAY, S.C. (WNCT) — East Carolina baseball came up short in the finals of the Conway Regional, losing to Coastal Carolina 1-0. The Pirates' season will come to an end with the loss. The game was a pitchers' duel until the very end. Bradley Zayac got the start for the ECU, striking out four Chanticleers and holding Coastal scoreless for seven innings. Coastal Carolina would score their one and only run in the eight inning, after a SAC Fly into deep center field from Sebastian Alexander. East Carolina would go three-up, three-down in the top of the ninth to finish the game. Coastal Carolina will go on to face the winner of the Auburn Regional in the Super Regional. Pirates split double-header on senior day; end game two on a walk-off
GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) — East Carolina baseball celebrated the seven seniors playing their final game in Clarke-LeClair Stadium before their double-header against UTSA on Saturday. Game one of the double header was back and forth from the beginning. The Roadrunners took an early lead in the first inning after an RBI single, the Pirates would respond almost immediately with a John Collins RBI to tie the game. Later in the seventh inning, Jack Herring and Riley Johnson would both send one out, giving the Pirates a 4-2 lead that they would take into the ninth. The Roadrunners would storm back after ECU walked the bases loaded in the ninth inning. A bases loaded walk and a base clearing double from outfielder Mason Lytle would give UTSA a 7-4 lead. Despite a Dixon Williams SAC fly and a Colby Wallace RBI single, ECU would come up short and fall 7-6. In game two, runs cam in bunches early on. After giving up a run in the first, the Pirates would come right back to answer. Riley Johnson hit a grand slam on his senior day to put the Pirates up 4-1. The Roadrunners would answer with four runs of their own in the second inning to take a 5-4 lead. UTSA would add to their lead in the eight with an RBI single and a SAC fly, growing the lead to 7-4. ECU would answer right away, Walker Barron and Braden Burress both notched and RBI single to get the game within one. Freshman Davin Whitaker would walk it off with a two RBI single to send the seniors home with a win on Senior Day. The Pirates will host Campbell in the final home game of the year on Tuesday, as they will face Campbell for the final game of their midweek series. First pitch is slated for 6pm.
