Karl-Anthony Towns Leads New York Knicks To Gutsy Comeback Victory Over Indiana Pacers
Last Updated: New York Knicks rallied from a 20-point deficit to defeat the Indiana Pacers 106-100 in Game Three of the Eastern Conference Finals. The New York Knicks overturned a 20-point deficit as they fought back to beat the Indiana Pacers 106-100 in Game Three of the Eastern Conference Finals on Sunday. The Knicks cut Indiana's lead to 2-1 in the series, and after losing both games at Madison Square Garden, they are now right back in the battle for a place in the NBA Finals. Karl-Anthony Towns starred for the Knicks with 24 points — 20 of them in an explosive fourth-quarter performance — and he contributed 15 rebounds as New York recorded their joint-largest comeback in a playoff game. Karl-Anthony Towns scored 20 points in the fourth-quarter tonight! He is the SECOND KNICK EVER to record 20+ points in a fourth-quarter of the playoffs in the PXP era 🤯😱 The other?Jalen Brunson – G1 of the East Semifinals vs. IND (May 6, 2024). — NBA (@NBA) May 26, 2025 The Pacers must now regroup for Game Four on Tuesday, having let a chance to take a commanding 3-0 lead slip from their grasp. Jalen Brunson added 23 points but had five fouls and had to sit for stretches of the game, although the Knicks never let up when he was on the bench. The Pacers had started strong and were 20 points up late in the second quarter after a 13-0 run, which included a three-pointer from Tyrese Haliburton, who followed it up with a huge dunk. But the Knicks responded with a 10-3 run to end the second quarter, and that was emblematic of their effort and proved to be a sign of things to come. New York ground their way closer and closer and grabbed the lead when Towns drained a 26-foot three-point jumper and then quickly followed up with a violent dunk to make it 86-85 with 8:02 remaining in the game. Indiana kept in touch, but Towns made a 30-foot three-pointer to put New York 94-90 up, and the Knicks never let that lead slip. 'When I got a chance tonight to do what I do in the fourth, I made sure I was going to seize the opportunity," said Towns, who made 8-of-17 shots from the floor, including 3-of-7 from three-point range, and was 5-of-6 from the free-throw line. 'I just wanted to go out there and give our team a chance to win. I'm just happy I was able to do that," he added. The Knicks have so often depended on Brunson this season, but with their star's minutes restricted due to his five fouls, they showed their depth. 'That's what we're built on," Brunson told broadcasters TNT. 'We're a great team, great chemistry. Built on togetherness. It's tough watching from the sidelines, but I have the utmost faith and confidence in them." 'No excuses' Haliburton led the Pacers with 20 points and six assists, while Myles Turner added 19 points, but there was a blow for Indiana when forward Aaron Nesmith limped out of the game midway through the third after he landed badly. Indiana led 70-57 with 6:06 remaining in the third when Nesmith headed to the locker room with what was later confirmed as a right ankle sprain. By the time he returned in the fourth quarter, the Knicks were ahead, but coach Rick Carlisle played down the significance of the lead vanishing without Nesmith on the court. 'You lose a guy like that, it affects your ability to close a quarter, so maybe there's a factor there, but we're not gonna make excuses," he said. 'I mean, we've come back from big leads, and we lost a lead today. Regardless of who's out there, we've got to be able to attack better and do the things to maintain it and finish the game. 'So we just simply did not execute as well as we needed to," he said. The winner of the series will face Oklahoma City or Minnesota in the Finals. The Thunder lead the series 2-1 heading into Monday's Game Four in Minneapolis. First Published:

New York comes from 20 down behind Karl-Anthony Towns, saves season with dramatic Game 3 victory
This is why the Knicks traded for Karl-Anthony Towns. With New York's season hanging by a thread — down 10 on the road entering the fourth quarter in a series it already trailed 0-2 — Towns took over and scored 20 the rest of the way. Karl-Anthony Towns scored 20 points in the fourth-quarter tonight! He is the SECOND KNICK EVER to record 20+ points in a fourth-quarter of the playoffs in the PXP era 🤯😱 The other? Jalen Brunson - G1 of the East Semifinals vs. IND (May 6, 2024). Combine that with the best New York defensive performance of these playoffs — their scrambling and ability to peel-switch off Haliburton to stay in front of him but cover pick-and-pop shooters has improved dramatically — and the improbable happened. New York came back to take Game 3 106-100 on the road. Indiana still leads the series 2-1 but Game 4 on Tuesday night suddenly becomes a swing game in the Eastern Conference Finals. This was a game where Knicks coach Tom Thibodeau tried everything. Thibodeau made his big move before the game, starting Mitchell Robinson next to Karl-Anthony Towns and sending Josh Hart to the bench — and it worked out of the gate. Indiana shot 2-of-8 to open the game (although some of that was just missed open looks) and they had just one assist early, allowing New York to get out to a 15-10 lead. Then Hart was subbed in for Towns, the Pacers hit back-to-back 3-pointers to retake the lead, and it was on. Indiana dominated most of the rest of the first half. A stretch in the second quarter summed up this game because both teams ran everything through or at Jalen Brunson. The Knicks had to initiate their offense with Brunson, not having another quality perimeter shot creator has been an issue, and it caught up with the Knicks here. On the other end, Indiana has targeted Brunson in pick-and-rolls and on switches relentlessly all series, but they were especially focused in this game and it spiraled into that second-quarter run where Indiana stretched its lead out to 20. TYRESE 3 👌 TYRESE SLAM 💥 PACERS LEAD AT HALFTIME ON TNT!! The other thing Tibodeau did was finally trust his bench (foul trouble for Towns and Brunson played into that). The Knicks came back with 16-4 run into the fourth quarter sparked by bench players — Miles 'Duece' McBride and the previously unseen this series Delon Wright and Landry Shamet. Those guys brought the two-way play New York had been lacking. Towns finished with 24 points and 15 rebounds, saving the Knicks' season. Brunson finished with 23 points and despite a rough night came up clutch when it mattered. CAPTAIN CLUTCH COMING THROUGH FOR THE KNICKS! 📺 ECF Game 3 on TNT Indiana shot 20% from 3 as a team (5-of-25) and got 20 points from Tyrese Haliburton and 19 from Myles Turner. That said, the Pacers struggled to create good looks when it mattered against a desperate Knicks team, and they will need to do that Tuesday to take control of this series.

Can the Boston Celtics win Game 5 with the Knicks without star forward Jayson Tatum? Can the Boston Celtics win Game 5 of their East Semis series with the New York Knicks without star forward Jayson Tatum? The St. Louis native ended up going down with an Achilles tendon tear late in Game 4 of the two Atlantic Division teams' 2025 NBA Eastern Conference Semifinals second round series, and will now miss the rest of this and likely most or all of next season as a result. But the Celtics' current campaign to repeat as NBA champs is not dead yet, as daunting as the prospect of even winning the next game may be with all the other dings Boston players have also been dealing with in this series. Can the Celtics come back and make a fight of what is left of the East Semifinals? The folks behind the "NBA on ESPN" YouTube channel put together a clip from "Get Up" with Jay Williams, Alan Hahn and Udonis Haslem joining Mike Greenberg to talk it all over.
