Trump Says Ukraine And Russia Could Agree Peace Deal 'This Week'
Donald Trump has claimed Russia and Ukraine could agree a peace deal 'this week' – despite Volodymyr Zelenskyy accusing Vladimir Putin of breaching his own Easter truce thousands of times. The US president said both sides in the conflict could 'make a fortune' if they agree to end the war and 'do big business' with America. He posted his optimistic message on his Truth Social platform on Sunday night. It comes just days after US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said America could 'move on' from the talks to end the war if no progress is made soon. Trump said: 'HOPEFULLY RUSSIA AMD UKRAINE WILL MAKE A DEAL THIS WEEK. BOTH WILL THEN START TO DO BIG BUSINESS WITH THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, WHICH IS THRIVING, AND MAKE A FORTUNE!' A peace deal within the next few days would be a big surprise, however. Ukrainian president Zelenskyy made clear his distrust of his Russian counterpart in a post on X at the end of the supposed Easter ceasefire declared by Putin at the weekend. He said: 'The total number of violations by the Russian army of Russia's own ceasefire promise throughout the day reached 2,935.' Overall, he said, there were a total of 96 Russian assaults during the so-called 'truce', 1,882 instances of shelling on Ukrainian positions and more than 950 drone attacks. Zelenskyy said: 'This day was not enough for Moscow to respond either to the proposal for a full 30-day ceasefire after Easter, or to the proposal to at least extend the ceasefire in the sky, refraining from missile and drone strikes on civilian infrastructure. 'The nature of Ukraine's actions will remain symmetrical: ceasefire will be met with ceasefire, and Russian strikes will be met with our own in defence. Actions always speak louder than words.' A report by Commander-in-Chief Syrskyi as of 12:00 a.m., following the end of total number of violations by the Russian army of Russia's own ceasefire promise throughout the day reached 2,935. The highest number of shellings and assaults occurred in the Pokrovsk… — Volodymyr Zelenskyy / Володимир Зеленський (@ZelenskyyUa) April 20, 2025 Vladimir Putin's 'Easter Truce' Is A Sham, Says Volodymyr Zelenskyy As Bombing Goes On A Key Putin Official Has Bizarrely Accused The UK Of 'Unleashing' The Ukraine War 'They're Fake': Chinese Citizens Caught Fighting For Russia Tear Into Putin's Forces

Sussex warm weather means strawberries will be ready for Easter
A Sussex strawberry grower says three weeks of sunshine has helped to produce a bumper crop of fruit which will be in supermarkets in time for Summer Berry Company, based in Colworth near Chichester, says recent warmer weather has helped it increase its production to 200 tonnes – 50 tonnes more than by the same time las Darnes, the company's commercial director, says he is "really excited" about the boost, with plants producing "lush-sweet tasting fruit".Tesco berry buyer Callum Baker said that the growth burst would mean an estimated 500,000 punnets of strawberries arriving at its stores in East and West Sussex. Mr Darnes added: "Strawberry plants love the English spring and summer climate; not too hot, not too cold with warm days and cool nights. This is why we produce the best strawberries in the world." Mr Baker said: "The arrival in stores of the first spring-grown British strawberries of the year creates a feel-good factor because it signifies the start of the UK fruit season and that summer is on the way."But their availability also brings a cheer from shoppers because British-grown strawberries are considered to be the best in the world because of our climate."Strawberries taste naturally sweeter when ripened in periods of sunny weather because it boosts their natural sugars."Dry conditions also enhance the flavour of the strawberries, making them firmer and more flavourful, he reporting by PA Media.

The system will be installed between junctions eight and nine on the M20 to act as a "pressure valve" to minimise congestion in the surrounding Jones, strategic lead for border disruption at the KMRF, said: "If Operation Brock is not in use and there are delays at the Port of Dover, this has a knock-on effect on the surrounding roads – causing unjustified disruption to local communities."We will do everything we can to enable people to get where they want to be as safely and as quickly as possible."Until more permanent solutions are found to tackle disruption on Kent's roads, Operation Brock is the only tool we have to keep traffic moving through the county."The installation of the operation means freight heading to mainland Europe are also legally required to follow the signed HGV routes to the Port of Dover and Eurotunnel, using the M20 and KMRF said drivers should ensure they have packed essential items, including food, water and regular medication, in case they face delays during busy periods.
