Clarksburg-Harrison Public Library opens ‘Tool Lending Library'
CLARKSBURG, (WBOY) — If you're looking to start some DIY projects over the summer, the Clarksburg-Harrison Public Library may be able to lend you a helping hammer. On Tuesday, the Clarksburg-Harrison Public Library opened its Tool Lending Library to library cardholders ages 18 and older and in good standing. Library technician Wayne Rowand told 12 News that the idea was sparked by community need. 'Well, it's been kind of a dream of mine kicking around for a minute to have a tool lending library so that folks, for whatever reason, who don't have the ability to get the tools—or even some of our older citizens who have had to downsize in their living arrangements and no longer have the space to store tools—they can come to the library and request to borrow tools to work on their projects,' Rowand said. Easter Party held at Clarksburg City Park Tools available at the Clarksburg-Harrison Public Library include: Garden tools Mechanic tool set Household tool set Hand tiller Shovels and rakes Sledgehammer Power tool set Rotary tool kit Squares, levels, and accessory kit Interim library director Shannon Beam told 12 News that the library has expanding its offerings way beyond books. 'Libraries have really expanded into a library of things, so for example, we already have STEM kits, we have outdoor equipment such as fishing poles and binoculars, and we have board games. Each library kind of looks at their community and what their community needs,' Beam said. The Clarksburg-Harrison Public Library has several activities coming up for every age group, including a Mother's Day Tea Party, Clark-Con, and its annual summer reading program. You can find the dates for those events and more on its website. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten, or redistributed.

Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum holds annual easter egg hunt
WESTON, (WBOY) — Coming off a night of severe storms in the northern part of the state, hundreds of children and families took advantage of the clearer skies and spent their Easter Sunday afternoon at the Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum (TALA) for its 15th annual Easter egg hunt. Michelle Graham, the filming and events manager at TALA, told 12 News that about 10,000 eggs were scattered around the lawn for the event. Children were separated into different areas and age ranges and rushed to pick up as many eggs as they could when the horn sounded off at 1 p.m. 'We're such a beautiful historic landmark here in Weston, West Virginia, we want people to come here and feel like they are a part of this community hub, just like it was when it was in operation,' Graham said. Easter Party held at Clarksburg City Park Although one of the largest events at the asylum, TALA is hosting several more community events throughout the year on top of its usual schedule of paranormal and historic tours. Easter Party held at Clarksburg City Park
CLARKSBURG, (WBOY) — The Kelly Miller Community Center and Clarksburg-Harrison Public Library held a free Easter Party at the City Park on Saturday, treating around 100 kids to games, food and an Easter Egg hunt. The kids made quick work gathering the over 3,500 eggs scattered throughout the park. The Easter Bunny and Andy the Armadillo from Texas Roadhouse both made an appearance for some photos. Runners race in Easter Egg 5K in Bridgeport Sherri James of the Kelly Miller Community Center told 12 News why the event is so special. 'The reason why we put on these events and the reason why we make them free is so that it's open and available to everyone,' James said. 'We want to make sure that everyone has a good Easter, and it's not something that they have to pay for every time they go out.' The Kelly Miller Community Center will be hosting 'Me Time', an event for some rest and relaxation later on May 21. In June, they'll also be hosting a 'Sip and Paint' event. The Kelly Miller Community Center also worked with the Clarksburg-Harrison Public Library for the day's event. The Children's Librarian Erica Perry told 12 News that it was nice to see the kids' 'big, bright smiles' and that you can keep up-to-date with the library's events on their website.
