Election 2025: Top two candidates to compete for Eastlake mayor in November

Laura DePledge and Kevin Kostelnik, as the top two to receive the most votes in the May 6 primary election, will now compete in the November general election for Eastlake mayor. DePledge received a total of 712 votes and Kostelnik received 654 votes, according to the unofficial final results from the Lake County Elections Board. The other five candidates who vied for the Eastlake mayor position were current mayor James Overstreet with 481 votes, Nick Rubertino with 323 votes, Carolyn Kinkoph with 170 votes and John Meyers with 19 votes. DePledge said her goals will include creating a strong community for residents of all ages, effective communication and transparency from leadership and more community events, as well as lakefront access. She said that maintaining clear communication was vital in her previously election positions. 'An informed public is a supportive public as no one appreciates being left in the dark or facing unexpected utility expenses without explanation,' DePledge said. 'My administration will create an internship program with local high schools and colleges. By enhancing our social media presence, we will be able to disseminate information to residents more efficiently.' DePledge said she has been preparing for the role of Eastlake mayor her entire life. 'My family has deep roots in Eastlake,' she said. 'My grandfather was a building inspector in the 1940s and my father was a police officer from 1957 retiring as the chief of police in 1989. He instilled in me a desire for public service. I have lived Eastlake's history. I wake up thinking about Eastlake's future and fall asleep thinking about Eastlake's future.' According to the city's charter, the mayor is elected every fourth year and will assume office on Jan. 1 following their election, and will serve until their successor is elected and qualified. The mayor will receive $60,000 annually. There are currently 12,315 registered voters in Eastlake.
