Mahindra XUV700 all-wheel drive becomes more affordable. Here's how

Mahindra XUV700 competes against Tata Safari, MG Hector Plus and Hyundai Alcazar among others. Mahindra XUV700 is the only car in its segment to get all-wheel drive. Mahindra XUV700's all-wheel drive variant has just become more accessible. This has become possible because Mahindra is now offering the all-wheel drive with the AX7 trim. Earlier, the all-wheel drive system was only available with the top-end AX7L trim. The new variant is priced at ₹ 23.04 lakh ex-showroom and the customers can also get Ebony Edition along with this variant. Mahindra XUV700 AX7 AWD: What are the specifications? The engine specifications of the new variant remain unchanged. Similar to the AX7L AWD, the AX7 AWD is exclusively offered with a diesel engine. This engine is a 2.2-litre mHawk unit, producing 182 bhp at 3,500 rpm and delivering a maximum torque of 450 Nm between 1,750 and 2,800 rpm. It is paired solely with a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission. The MX variant also uses the same engine but gets a lower state of tune. So, it puts out 152 bhp of max power and 360 Nm of peak torque. It is offered only with a 6-speed manual transmission. The petrol engine on duty is a 2.0-turbocharged unit that puts out 197 bhp of max power and 380 Nm of peak torque. Compared to other trims, the AX7 variant includes an Advanced Driver Aids System, side airbags, a tyre pressure monitoring system, Intelli Control, automatic headlamps and wipers, as well as a driver drowsiness detection feature. The aesthetic enhancements comprise 18-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, a leatherette steering wheel, leatherette seats, and a leatherette gear lever. Additionally, the brand has introduced features such as a 6-way powered seat with welcome retract, LED headlamps with Auto Booster, an air purifier, steering-mounted controls, electric folding ORVMs, a one-touch driver window with smart close, dual-zone climate control, and a co-driver ergo lever. With the update, Mahindra provides the XUV700 in 43 different variants, from the base MX variant to the feature-packed AX7 L of the Ebony Edition. (HT Auto/Sabyasachi Dasgupta) Mahindra XUV700 range has been streamlined by eliminating all five-seater options from its lineup. With the update, the SUV is now available only in six- and seven-seater options, placing it even more strongly as a family vehicle. The change in the lineup has translated into a price hike as well, with the base price now starting at ₹ 14.49 lakh (ex-showroom), an increase from the earlier ₹ 13.99 lakh. With the update, Mahindra provides the XUV700 in 43 different variants, from the base MX variant to the feature-packed AX7 L of the Ebony Edition. The Ebony Edition, which is the latest one, adds visual value and premium shine to the top-of-the-line trims. On the opposite end of the spectrum, the AX7 L Diesel Automatic Ebony Edition tops the range with the most premium features and also gets a seven-seat layout. With the update, the prices of the Mahindra XUV700 now start at ₹ 14.49 lakh for the base MX petrol seven seater version and top out at ₹ 25.15 lakh for the AX7 L AWD Ebony edition. Mahindra XUV700: Specs The Mahindra XUV700 is available in both petrol and diesel options. The petrol model gets a 2.0-litre mStallion motor that kicks out 197 bhp of power and 380 Nm of torque. The 2.2-litre mHawk diesel motor on the other hand generates 152 bhp of power and 360 Nm of torque. There is a differently tuned diesel motor as well that kicks out 182 bhp of power and 420 Nm of torque. Transmission duty in the Mahindra XUV700 is done by a six-speed manual gearbox and a six-speed automatic unit. This includes the 10.25-inch twin screens for the instrument console and infotainment system. There's also the AdrenoX user interface, Alexa built-in functionality, Sony sound system, Level 2 ADAS, a panoramic sunroof, voice commands, ambient lighting and more. An update in 2024 also introduced ventilated seats, ORVMs with memory function, OTA updates with 13 new feature enhancements and the new Napoli Black shade. Mahindra has silently added a new variant ot the XUV700 in the lineup. Because of this, owning an all-wheel drive XUV700 has become affordable because all-wheel drive is now available from AX7 onwards. Earlier, it was only available on the top-end AX7L variant. The new XUV700 AX7 AWD is priced at ₹23.04 lakh ex-showroom. Not only this, but the customers can also opt for the new Ebony Edition with the new AX7 AWD trim. There are no changes to the engine of the new variant. So, just like the AX7L AWD, the AX7 AWD is only available with a diesel engine. Mahindra has established itself as the fastest-growing automotive brand in South Africa, achieving an impressive 40 percent increase in monthly sales over the past year. In March, the Indian manufacturer set a new sales record by selling 2,253 units, marking the first time it exceeded the 2,000 sales milestone and significantly surpassing its previous record of 1,613 registrations. Furthermore, Mahindra reached an annual sales record of 15,088 vehicles for the financial year ending in March 2025. During this record-breaking period, Mahindra surpassed all its self-imposed targets. For instance, in March, it achieved the highest monthly sales of SUVs at 1,000 units, the most bakkies ever sold in a single month at 1,256 units, and the largest number of Scorpio-N SUVs delivered in one month at 145 units. These accomplishments have propelled Mahindra to become the eighth-largest vehicle manufacturer in South Africa. The company aims to sustain its growth in the region and has announced the establishment of a new manufacturing hub at the Dube Tradeport in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal. This facility will replace the existing factory and is equipped with advanced assembly capabilities, allowing Mahindra to produce its range of pick-up trucks. The new plant has a production capacity exceeding 1,000 units per month, compared to the current facility's output of approximately 700 units. The brand offers models such as the XUV 3XO, Bolero pick-up truck, XUV700, and Scorpio N, in addition to various body forms of the Scorpio.
