'Star Search' Is Coming Back As A Live Show On Netflix
'Star Search,' the talent competition show that premiered in 1983 with host Ed McMahon, is returning as a live competition show on Netflix. The streaming service announced the rebirth of the show on Wednesday at its presentation for advertisers. It's the second revival of the show, which originally ran for 12 years and was then brought back in 2003 with host Arsenio Hall. With Netflix's adaptation, the show will stream live twice a week, and contestants will compete in dance, song, comedy and kids categories and try to earn viewers' votes to stay in the competition. 'It's part talent showcase, part high-stakes drama — and it's all live on Netflix,' a news release reads. 'Star Search' has served as the launching pad for many notable artists, including Britney Spears, the Backstreet Boys, Alanis Morissette, Loni Love, Adam Sandler, Conan O'Brien, Destiny's Child, Justin Timberlake, Usher, Sutton Foster, Sharon Stone, Pitbull and more. Billy Porter won the competition in 1992 in the male vocalist category, and Love won in 2003 for comedy. During the presentation, Netflix also announced the renewals of 'Bridgerton,' 'The Four Seasons' and 'The Diplomat' as well as a host of new projects, including a comedy from Dan Levy and a docuseries about NFL Hall of Famer Deion Sanders. Casting for 'Star Search' is now open. The host and premiere date have yet to be announced.
