Home team transforms Eden Gardens with groundbreaking tifo displays

This T20 season, Kolkata has taken fan culture to dazzling new heights. The city's home team has turned Eden Gardens into a pulsating arena of colour and creativity, unveiling 14 distinct tifos across 7 home matches—a first in Indian cricket and a cultural milestone in the country's sporting landscape. A tifo —typically a large, choreographed visual display involving banners, flags, or coordinated crowd movements—has long been a staple in global football. This season, Kolkata gave it a distinctly local twist, blending sporting passion with regional pride. From bold player tributes to a powerful homage to the 'House of Champions,' each tifo added a theatrical edge to the matchday experience, culminating in a spectacular seven-tifo display during the high-stakes clash against Chennai. Each creation echoed the essence of the city: expressive, fearless, and fiercely loyal. Woven into every design was the now-iconic battle cry that defines Kolkata's cricketing spirit— Korbo, Lorbo, Jeetbo. Beyond the visuals, the project deepened the bond between the team and its fans. It wasn't just a celebration of the players—it was a tribute to the sea of supporters who turn Eden Gardens into a fortress, match after match, season after season. Sourav Ganguly optimistic about Eden Gardens hosting IPL 2025 summit clash, says 'Is it that easy to shift final?'

Sourav Ganguly, former BCCI president and cricketing legend has recently expressed confidence that Eden Gardens Stadium in Kolkata will retain its slot to host the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 final on June 3. Ganguly's optimism is rooted in the strong ties between the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) and the BCCI. The IPL 2025 season was halted for a week on May 8 due to the India-Pakistan conflict. The final was originally scheduled for May 25 but has now been shifted to June 3. Eden Gardens hosted the opening match of the 2025 edition and was awarded the final following Kolkata Knight Riders' title-winning performance in 2024. According to the previous schedule, the venue was going to host Qualifier 2 on May 23 and the final on May 25. However, the BCCI is yet to confirm whether Kolkata will retain these matches, sparking speculations regarding possible venues including Ahmedabad. Sourav Ganguly addressed the uncertainty surrounding Eden Gardens' role in the playoffs. 'No, no, we're trying to talk to the BCCI,' he said at the All India Invitation Inter-School Regatta in Kolkata when questioned about the possibility of hosting the final as planned. He further added, 'Is it that easy to shift the final? It's Eden's Playoffs, and I am sure everything will be sorted. I'm very hopeful." On Friday, a group of fans protested outside Eden Gardens, demanding that the final remain in Kolkata. Sourav gave his take on the matter and said, 'Protest doesn't help much. BCCI has a very good relationship with the Cricket Association of Bengal.' The primary reason behind the BCCI's hesitation to confirm Eden Gardens as the final clash's venue is the looming southwest monsoon. It is expected to arrive in the region around early June. The CAB has proactively submitted data from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to the BCCI, asserting that Kolkata's weather will remain good for cricket on June 3. However, the BCCI has indicated that long-term weather forecasts lack precision at this stage. Sourav Ganguly noted that Kolkata has already completed its league matches at the venue and explained why Eden Gardens was not included in the initial rescheduling announcements. 'Kolkata has finished its league matches, so Eden is not there in the first list,' he expressed. As the BCCI weighs its options, the cricketing world awaits confirmation on whether Eden Gardens will uphold its tradition of hosting the IPL's grand finale.

Sourav Ganguly hopeful for IPL 2025 final at Eden Gardens says, ‘BCCI has very good relationship with CAB'

Former India captain and ex-Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) president Sourav Ganguly is hopeful that the Indian Premier League 2025 final will happen in Kolkata's iconic Eden Gardens Stadium. The former BCCI president, Ganguly, expressed optimism about the Eden Gardens keeping its date with the IPL final and said CAB shares an 'excellent relationship' with the game's all-powerful apex body. 'We're trying — talking to the BCCI,' Ganguly said when asked about the possibility of Eden Gardens hosting the final as per the original schedule. The BCCI is yet to officially confirm the venues for the IPL playoffs after the resumption, post a one-week halt due to escalating tensions between India and Pakistan. The rescheduled league fixtures were announced after the tournament was halted on May 8. 'Is it that easy to shift the final? It's Eden's Playoffs, and I'm sure everything will be sorted. I'm very hopeful,' said the former India captain. A section of people also staged a protest outside the stadium on Friday, demanding that the IPL final be staged in Kolkata. 'Protest doesn't help much. BCCI has a very good relationship with the Cricket Association of Bengal,' said Ganguly to PTI. The Cricket Association of Bengal is led by Snehasish Ganguly, who is Sourav Ganguly's brother. He is the current president of CAB. Responding to the delay in finalising the playoffs venues, Ganguly said, 'Kolkata has finished its league matches, so Eden is not there in the first list.' Eden Gardens was awarded the final after Kolkata Knight Riders won the title in 2024. The venue also hosted the opening match of the 2025 edition and was originally supposed to host Qualifier 2 on May 23 and the final on May 25. However, the tournament schedule was pushed back by a week, with the final now scheduled for June 3 instead of May 25. "Is It That Easy?": Sourav Ganguly's Blunt Take On IPL 2025 Final Venue Change Row

Former BCCI president Sourav Ganguly on Saturday expressed optimism about the Eden Gardens keeping its date with the 2025 IPL final and said the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) shares an "excellent relationship" with the game's all-powerful apex body. The BCCI is yet to officially confirm the venues for the IPL playoffs, even though it has announced the rescheduled league fixtures after the tournament was halted on May 8 due to the India-Pakistan conflict. "No, no, we're trying -- talking to the BCCI," Ganguly said when asked about the possibility of Eden Gardens hosting the final as per the original schedule. "Eto sohoje sore jawa jay? (Is it that easy to shift the final). It's Eden's playoffs, and I'm sure everything will be sorted. I'm very hopeful," added Ganguly during the final of All India Invitation Inter-School Regetta here. A section of people staged a protest outside the iconic venue on Friday, demanding that the IPL final be staged in Kolkata. "Protest doesn't help much. BCCI has a very good relationship with the Cricket Association of Bengal," said the former India captain. Responding to the delay in finalising playoff venues, Ganguly said: "Kolkata has finished its league matches, so Eden is not there in the first list." Eden Gardens was awarded the final for Kolkata Knight Riders' title-winning performance in the 2024 season. The venue also hosted the opening match of the 2025 edition. The tournament schedule was pushed back by a week, with the final now scheduled for June 3 instead of the originally planned May 25. As per the original plan, Eden Gardens was to host Qualifier 2 on May 23 and the final on May 25. However, the BCCI has remained tight-lipped about the new venue for the final, fuelling further speculation. The reason behind the proposed shift is the weather forecast, as the onset of the southwest monsoon approaches the region around that time. The CAB has reportedly submitted IMD data to the BCCI, asserting that conditions in Kolkata will remain favourable for hosting the final on June 3. However, the BCCI is understood to have conveyed that it's premature to base a decision on long-term forecasts and that more accurate weather predictions will only be possible around May 25. Ganguly 'surprised' by Kohli Test retirement Test cricket in India recently suffered twin setbacks with skipper Rohit Sharma and batting maestro Virat Kohli retiring from the game's traditional format. Reacting to the development, the former India captain expressed surprised over Kohli's decision and paid tribute to both players for their illustrious careers. "It's their own decision. Can anyone leave the sport without it being their own wish? But it's been a fantastic career, and the same goes for Rohit Sharma. Kohli's retirement has surprised me," Ganguly said. Rohit was the first to call time on his red-ball career, and few days later, Kohli followed suit, leaving a massive void in the team. The exits come at a crucial juncture, with a demanding five-match Test series in England scheduled from next month. The focus now shifts to the selection of India's next Test captain, with a debate brewing over whether Shubman Gill or Jasprit Bumrah should take over the reins. "It's a decision the selectors must weigh carefully," said Ganguly. "There are a lot of pros and cons. They have to think long term. Whatever the selectors think and work out, they will decide. There's also Bumrah's injury -- whatever they decide...," Ganguly added.
