Hockey star on the rise
Hockey prodigy Eden Paul is making his mark by being one of the youngest hockey players in the D12 district to not only represent Gauteng but also make his way to an international tournament later in the year.
At just the age of three, Eden held his first hockey stick. Being the son of a former hockey player and coach, this was his destiny.
Speaking to the Roodepoort Northsider, Eden explains that he spent a lot of time at the hockey club where his mother coached, and that is where his story began.
'I guess you can say that I made use of the opportunity whenever I would visit the club if my mother's team was playing or practising. This is where I learnt my skills, and being a left-handed player, I had to stand out,' he says.
Eden has been selected to represent the Southern Gauteng Hockey Team to participate in the Senior Inter-Provincial Tournament (IPT) in June. Additionally, he will be making his international debut representing South Africa in the Netherlands in September.
This marks a huge milestone in his goal to become a professional hockey player, as it will be the first time he travels outside the country.
