Key clue emerges from new video of Seattle burglary ring after suspect, 21, arrested for 'robbing NFL, MLB stars'

Prosecutors in Seattle have revealed a series of key clues they've used to charge a 21-year-old man with a string of high-profile burglaries of local athletes' homes. The alleged burglary ring is accused of hitting the residences of current Seattle Mariners stars Julio Rodriguez and Luis Castillo, club legend Edgar Martinez, Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher and Washington native Black Snell, as well as Seahawks great Richard Sherman. After coordinating with six separate Washington police jurisdictions since early 2025, the King County Prosecuting Attorney's Office recently charged 21-year-old Earl Riley with multiple counts related to the case thanks to the presence of a red bag discovered at a family home last month. It is that red bag that prosecutors say was seen on surveillance video at multiple break-ins, including a new clip from Martinez's home that was released Monday. Several burglars are seen in each video. Prosecutors also point to a Jeep Grand Cherokee that was spotted on multiple surveillance videos, as well as an Instagram post containing a Rolex watch matching the description of one stolen from Snell's home. Other stolen items from the athletes' homes were found at Riley's home or recovered from family members. Furthermore, cell phone data puts Riley near the scene of each home at the time of the burglaries from February to May. Riley was also accused of holding Sherman's family at gunpoint. He is now being held on $1 million bail ahead of his June 16 arraignment. Meanwhile local police continue to look for his accomplices. The investigation is described as ongoing and additional charges could be filed against other defendants, according to a King County DA statement. 'The King County Prosecuting Attorney's Office worked for weeks on multiple search warrants that led to the filing of these felony charges today,' King County prosecuting attorney Leesa Manion said. 'I am grateful for the excellent work from our deputy prosecutors and from police investigators on these home burglaries, and all burglaries filed in King County. All people deserve to feel safe in their homes, and our office will continue to hold people accountable for criminal behavior.' Sherman and his wife Ashley both released security footage in March of the armed men who robbed their home while she and their children were on the property. 'House being robbed at gun point with my family in it isn't what anyone wants for a birthday gift,' Sherman wrote on X alongside two grabs from his security footage. 'Scary situation that my Wife handled masterfully and kept my kids safe. If anyone has any info that can help find these people please reach out.' Seattle's Luis Castillo allegedly lost more than $6,000 worth of Luis Vuitton bags in the heist Suspects were seen walking towards Edgar Martinez's home before suddenly retreating Ashley posted video of the break in on social media, showing three men breaking in through a ground-floor window. As she explained, the couple's two children were not harmed physically. 'Thank you to everyone who has checked in. It is truly appreciated,' Ashley wrote on social media. 'The kids and I are physically ok. Very shaken up and hope to find these people soon. 'Waking up to intruders outside your bedroom with a gun is something no one should have to experience,' she added. 'Like I said they tried the wrong people! We WILL find you!' Sherman posted two grabs showing men walking into the home wearing masks and heavy jackets. One of the men is seen brandishing a pistol. The first burglary is believed to have taken place on February 7, when Castillo's home was robbed of $6,000 worth of Louis Vuitton bags. A month later, Snell's home was robbed by suspects who entered through a shattered living room window, ransacked several rooms, and stole about $250,000 worth of luxury items, including a pair of Rolexes valued at $75,000 each. Riley is facing four burglary charges, a robbery charge, and counts of unlawful possession of a firearm and eluding police vehicle after allegedly driving away from police in his Cherokee. When police did catch up to him at a park, he was said to be in possession of a stolen gun.

When Doc Gooden returned as a Yankee and no-no'd A-Rod's mighty Mariners

When Dwight "Doc" Gooden took to the mound at Yankee Stadium on May 14, 1996, his greatness was largely behind him. Having tested positive for cocaine use, the longtime Mets star was suspended the last six weeks of the 1994 season and the entire 1995 season. He was back for the Yankees' 1996 campaign, which he began without distinction. But a week earlier he had won his first game in nearly two years, over the Detroit Tigers, a victory he called "the sweetest of my career." Advertisement Things were about to get sweeter for the 1984 Rookie of the Year. Baseball has a way of aligning planets — through the application of physics to much smaller spheres — to recreate, rejuvenate, and redeem. How else to explain what happened when Gooden, who everyone was sure was done in baseball, toed the rubber that May night in The Bronx and no-hit the powerful Seattle Mariners, 2-0, a team that included sluggers Edgar Martinez and Alex Rodriguez? The late great Journal News sportswriter Ernie Palladino put it this way: "For one magical night, it seemed like 1984 all over again. "Before Doc Gooden's drug problems. Before the suspension. Before the comeback. Advertisement "Better, even. Better because Gooden had never thrown a no-hitter before last night's 2-0 gem against the power-laden Seattle Mariners. "He has one now, thanks to a curveball that broke with renewed authority and a fastball that batters couldn't catch up to last night. It no longer explodes like Gooden's old fastball, but it is one he locates with precision." Gooden wasn't perfect — he gave up six walks and threw a wild pitch — but he was more than good enough. Before Paul Sorrento's pop-up had landed in Derek Jeter's glove for the final out to seal the no-hitter, Gooden raised his arms in triumph. His teammates mobbed him on the mound and hoisted him on their shoulders, squiring him toward the home dugout. Soon enough, he was earthbound again (except in spirit), returning to the diamond to salute the Yankee faithful. On this day in Seahawks history: the Kingdome was imploded 25 years ago

On this day in Seahawks history: the Kingdome was imploded 25 years ago On this day in Seattle Seahawks history, the 12th Man said goodbye to the Kingdome. Twenty-five years ago today, the Kingdome was imploded, paving the way for the eventual construction of what is now Lumen Field. It was the first home the Seahawks - and Mariners - ever knew, and for fans of a certain age, it is still fondly remembered among the Seattle faithful. Ground was broken in SoDo for the Kingdome in 1972, and it was open to the public by March of 1976, just in time for the inaugural season for the Seahawks - who will be enjoying their 50th anniversary this year! The Kingdome was a great home for the Seahawks, as they had a stretch of 117-consecutive sell-out games between 1979 and 1993, as well as posting a lofty 9-3 record on Monday Night Football games played there. The Kingdome is also where the deafening roar of the 12th Man was first heard. Seattle fans quickly gained a reputation for being one of the most raucous fanbase in the league, forcing the NFL to take a vote to limit excessive crowd noise. Naturally, the 12's let their displeasure at this rule be heard... loud and clear. As one can imagine, the rules attempting to limit crowd noise were not exactly effective. Legend has it, The Wave was originated at the Kingdome. The debate rages on among fans on whether or not they like The Wave, but it does have unique roots to the City of Seattle. A year after the Seahawks came into existence, they had roommates in the Kingdome: the Mariners, who would call the stadium home as well from 1977 until 1999. The Kingdome is where baseball in Seattle was saved, as Edgar Martinez' walk-off double in the bottom of the 11th inning during the 1995 ALDS helped lift the Mariners over the New York Yankees, propelling Seattle to the ALCS. Of course, the Seahawks and Mariners weren't the only tenants of the Kingdome, as the SuperSonics played there as well for a time in the late 1970's to the mid-1980's. The Kingdome played host to two NBA Finals games. The SuperSonics went 1-1 in those games, losing 120-116 to the Washington Bullets in overtime in 1978, but prevailing 105-95 over the Bullets the following year en route to eventually winning their only NBA championship. The Kingdome is an indelible part of Seattle sports history, and it will always be inextricably linked to this city's top teams. To tell the story of the Seahawks, Mariners and even Sonics without the Kingdome would be impossible. While the Kingdome has since been replaced by Lumen Field and T-Mobile Park, its legacy will stand forever.
