Lady Vol guard medically retires from basketball
Tennessee junior Edie Darby announced she will medical retire from basketball. The 5-foot-7 guard played for the Lady Vols from 2022-24.
Darby appeared in 31 games and totaled 35 points, 18 rebounds, 10 assists and eight steals at Tennessee.
"This game has given me so much," Darby said. "It's shaped me, challenged me and given me opportunities I will never take for granted. After a lot of prayer and listening to my body, I have made the decision to medically retire from basketball. It's a decision I never thought or wanted to make, but it is rooted in faith and trust in the Lord's plan for what is next."
Darby is from Greenfield High School in Greenfield, Tennessee. She scored 1,000 career points by her junior season and finished with 1,603 points. The coronavirus pandemic ended Greenfield's 34-0 season early in 2020. Darby was Greenfield's valedictorian in 2022.
