Edison High students craft mosaic mural for Michelle Obama
ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — Female students from Edison Career and Technology High School are building a mosaic mural honoring former first lady, Michelle Obama.
The mural is titled 'Becoming Legacy: The Michelle Obama Mosaic.'
Senior students worked with female masons from local unions while 10th graders got to observe the progress throughout the day.
Last year's mosaic mural honored the Black Rosie's, African American women who served as essential workers on the home front during World War II.
Thursday, we asked why they chose Michelle Obama.
'We wanted to, this year, not only do a woman in power, because that's what the wall is, but a woman of color and out of the other choices, she's been the most relevant and just the most inspiring to all of us on the team,' Edison Career and Technology High School Junior Jaymaiyah Ward said.
The official mural unveiling will take place on June 5.
