SMK Methodist Sibu hosts education fair to inspire students towards brighter futures
Chieng (right) visits one of the booths at the exhibition. SIBU (May 8): The Education Exhibition organised by SMK Methodist today serves as an essential platform to guide students in planning for a brighter future, said Bukit Assek assemblyman Joseph Chieng. Chieng, who is also the chairman of the school's alumni association, described the exhibition as a celebration of possibilities ― a platform of hope, inspiration, and discovery that can help students identify their educational and career paths. 'Today, as we gather under one roof, we bring together universities, colleges, vocational institutions, scholarship providers, and career counsellors ― all here for one purpose: to help inform and guide you in making decisions about your future,' he said when officiating the event. A former student of SMK Methodist, Chieng said it felt like a homecoming. 'This school gave us more than just academic knowledge ― it taught us resilience, discipline, compassion, and are the values that have carried us through life's ups and downs,' he said. He added that out of gratitude, the alumni association is committed to giving back, and the education fair is part of that effort to ensure today's students have access to greater opportunities. Chieng reminded school leavers that they are at a critical juncture, where every decision and effort they make can shape their future. 'I urge you to be curious ― step up, ask questions, talk to the exhibitors, and explore the many pathways before you. You may be surprised by the doors you never knew existed. 'Most importantly, believe in yourself. No dream is too big if you are willing to work for it. Remember, your background does not define your limit ― your attitude and determination do.' He expressed appreciation to the teachers for their dedication, saying they are guiding lights in student's lives, helping shape not only minds but also character. 'To the parents, thank you for your love and support, for walking alongside your children as they find their way. 'And to the exhibitors, institutions, and partners ― we are grateful for your generosity in sharing your expertise, resources, and opportunities with our students.' In addition, he also commended the efforts of the organising committee, volunteers, and school administration for making the exhibition a success. 'Education is not just about grades or certificates ― it is preparing ourselves to contribute meaningfully to society, to serve others, and to become individuals of purpose and integrity,' he added. education fair joseph chieng Sibu SMK Methodist
