Eflin goes seven scoreless innings and Orioles beat White Sox 2-1

BALTIMORE (AP) — Zach Eflin allowed four hits over seven shutout innings and the Baltimore Orioles beat the Chicago White Sox 2-1 on Friday. Eflin (4-2) struck out six and walked one in his first scoreless outing this season while lowering his ERA nearly a run to 4.46. Ramón Urías broke a scoreless tie with a sixth-inning sacrifice fly off Sean Burke (3-6). Ryan Mountcastle then swiped home on a double steal, then left before the eighth inning with right hamstring discomfort. Bryan Baker worked a perfect eighth in a game originally scheduled to start at 7:05 p.m. that was moved up to 4:30 p.m. because of expected inclement weather in the area, before Felix Bautista gave up Andrew Benintendi's RBI double in the ninth then stranded two for his ninth save. Burke worked six innings after opener Jared Shuster worked an inning plus a batter as the White Sox fell to .200 (6-24) on the road. Key moment Chicago's Miguel Vargas singled and Benintendi walked to put two on with one out in the seventh. Eflin escaped by striking out Luis Robert Jr. swinging and Joshua Palacios Jr. looking, the latter on a 3-2 cutter that home plate umpire D.J. Rayburn said caught the outer corner of the zone. Key stat Eflin got within six batters of completing his fourth career shutout and his first since 2020. His last nine-inning shutout helped Philadelphia win 7-0 win at Kansas City on May 11, 2019. Up next Chicago right-hander Davis Martin (2-5, 3.45 ERA) will try to extend his streak of quality starts to four on Saturday after yielding only five combined runs in his last three outings (20 IP). He faces Orioles right-hander Dean Kremer (4-5-, 5.02), who is looking for consecutive wins after pitching 5 1/3 scoreless frames in a 5-1 victory at Boston last Sunday. ___

Three Players Orioles Should Consider Trading Amid Free-Fall

Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. One of the biggest surprises during the first month-plus of the MLB season has been the Baltimore Orioles, and not in a good way. At 13-22, Baltimore has the second-worst record in the American League and fourth-worst in all of baseball. Because of this, it is likely that with continued struggles, Baltimore will become a seller at this season's trade deadline. If so, here are three players the Orioles should put on the trade block prior to the deadline. TORONTO, CANADA - MARCH 27: Adley Rutschman #35 and Zach Eflin #24 of the Baltimore Orioles celebrate after the fourth inning against the Toronto Blue Jays on Opening Day at Rogers Centre on March 27,... TORONTO, CANADA - MARCH 27: Adley Rutschman #35 and Zach Eflin #24 of the Baltimore Orioles celebrate after the fourth inning against the Toronto Blue Jays on Opening Day at Rogers Centre on March 27, 2025 in Toronto, Canada. MoreZach Eflin, SP Eflin was traded from to the Orioles from the Tampa Bay Rays prior to last season's trade deadline and he could find himself on the move again this season. He is currently on the injured list but is expected to return this weekend in Baltimore's series against the Los Angeles Angels. The next two months for Eflin may turn him into a surefire trade candidate. Eflin is in the final season of a three-year, $60 million contract, making him a prime candidate to be moved if Baltimore falls out of contention and feels it could get a nice return from a team who feels it desperately needs to add a starting pitcher. The Yankees, Red Sox, Tigers, Royals and Cubs are all teams that should have interest in Eflin, should he become available. Cedric Mullins, CF Mullins has been mentioned among Orioles trade candidates for a while. Much like Eflin, his next two months of the season will determine exactly how much he is coveted when the time comes. After a scorching hot start to the season, Mullins is in the middle of a 2-for-29 slump. There is still plenty of time to improve that, and he will certainly need to get those numbers up to make himself a trade target. If it is made known that Mullins is available, the Tigers, Royals, Phillies and Reds should jump on the phone and try to get a deal worked out. Ryan O'Hearn, 1B/DH It was hard to decide between O'Hearn and Ryan Mountcastle, but with O'Hearn hitting a solid .304 with seven home runs this season, he became the clear choice. Much like the other two players on the list, O'Hearn would be a rental if he's moved, as he is set to be a free agent after the season ends. His average is first one the team and his seven home runs tie him with Mullins for the team lead. If he is made available, there are several teams who could use another left-handed bat in their lineup. The Red Sox, Giants, Reds and Rangers should all be interested in acquiring him. Orioles right-hander Zach Eflin feeling good a day after leaving game with shoulder fatigue

PHOENIX (AP) — Baltimore Orioles right-hander Zach Eflin woke up feeling good, a day after leaving a game against the Arizona Diamondbacks with shoulder fatigue. The Orioles are still awaiting results from an MRI performed Tuesday. Advertisement 'Really encouraging news that he felt really good waking up this morning,' Orioles manager Brandon Hyde said. 'Didn't feel the soreness as bad, and those are positive signs there. ... We're keeping our fingers crossed. Eflin gave up just one run on four hits over six innings but his velocity dipped in the sixth. The 30-year-old mentioned the fatigue to manager Brandon Hyde between innings, which was enough to shut him down for the evening. The Orioles beat the Diamondbacks 5-1. Eflin threw 73 pitches. He is 2-1 with a 3.00 ERA through three starts this season. Baltimore already has lost key reliever Albert Suárez for a couple of months after the right-hander was moved to the 60-day injured list on Monday with a shoulder injury.
