‘Bucking Fastard': First Look At Werner Herzog Pic Starring Kate & Rooney Mara
Here's a first-look image for Bucking Fastard, the Werner Herzog pic starring real-life sisters Kate and Rooney Mara as on-screen siblings.
The Maras can be seen in the image as Jean and Joan Holbrooke, sisters who are so close that they speak in unison, love the same man, have the same dreams and event make the same slips of the tongue. They're based on the true story of a pair of inseparable sisters, who lived on the fringes of society.

Set in both the contemporary urban world and the untamed wilds of Ireland, the sisters are assigned a government-issued social worker, Timothy (Domhnall Gleeson), who attempts to help them to adapt to modern life after they become a tabloid sensation. In search of an imaginary land where true love is possible, the begin digging a tunnel through an entire mountain range. Orlando Bloom also stars as their rowdy ex-lover, Gareth Maloney.
Principal photography wrapped on April 26, and HanWay Films has boarded the private equity-backed film to represent worldwide sales. First footage filmed in Dublin and Sligo in Ireland and Slovenia will be presented to buyers in Cannes. We revealed news of the film in February.
The film is produced by Clara Wu Tsai (Blue Bayou), Ariel Leon Isacovitch (Theater of Thought) and Agnes Chu (Spiderhead), with Kieran Corrigan, Emanuele Moretti and Andrea Bucko. Sacker Entertainment Law is overseeing production legal.
Speaking about the pic for the first time at the end of shooting last month, legendary director Herzog said: 'Bucking Fastard is a film that, for me, completes a circle in an operatic triptych with my previous films, Fitzcarraldo and Grizzly Man. We cannot see the world as Jean and Joan Holbrooke see it, but we do see how the world reacts to them — through the courts and the press, through those that want to help and those who want to use them, through the eyes of beasts both tame and wild, and even through their own echoes in the core of the earth.'
Herzog is represented by Gersh; Kate Mara is represented by CAA, Mosaic Media Group and Sloane, Offer; Rooney Mara is represented by WME, Entertainment 360 and Sloane, Offer; Bloom is represented by WME, Untitled Entertainment and Felker, Toczek; Gleeson is represented by Paradigm, The Agency and Goodman Genow.
