Houthis launch 4th missile attack on Israel in a week, warn ‘operations will escalate'

CAIRO – 23 May 2025: The Houthis announced on Friday targeting Ben Gurion airport near Tel Aviv on Friday with a hypersonic ballistic missile, marking their fourth attack on Israel this week. 'The operation has successfully achieved its objective,' Houthis' spokesman Yahya Saree announced in a video statement. 'It caused millions of herds of usurping Zionists to flee to shelters and halting airport operations,' he added. Saree warned that the Houthis' operations against Israel 'will escalate' as long as the Israeli attacks and besiege on Gaza persist. Israel, who is facing unprecedented pressures from its closest allies over its handling of the war in Gaza, has pledged to resume a 'minimal' amount of humanitarian aid into the enclave after nearly three months of blockade#Egypt #Africa #MENAhttps:// — Egypt Today Magazine (@EgyptTodayMag) May 21, 2025 The Israeli army announced intercepting the attack with no reports of injuries or damage. The missile attack set off sirens early today in central Israel, including Tel Aviv, according to Israeli reports, causing nearly a million residents to rush to bomb shelters. The Houthis, who have launched hundreds of ballistic missiles and drones on Israel since the start of the Israeli war in Gaza in 2023, say their fresh attack comes in affirmation of their solidarity with the Palestinian people. Their attacks have continued despite Israeli airstrikes that targeted ports and other vital facilities in Yemen and killed several people. The war in Gaza has killed nearly 54,000 people, predominantly women and children, according to local health officials.

Israeli forces drop warning leaflets as they launch new military operation to occupy Gaza

CAIRO – 17 May 2025: Early Saturday morning, the Israeli occupation forces began expanding their military operations in Gaza amid Hamas's reluctance to agree to a temporary halt of the fighting and give up on their long-held demand of a permanent end to the war. Within hours of the start of Operation Gideon Chariots, the Israeli army launched extensive strikes and moved troops to seize control of areas within the Gaza Strip, killing dozens of Palestinians including women and children. The Israeli army said in a statement that the operation aims to achieve all the war's objectives, including the release of captives and the dismantling of Hamas. Operation Gideon Chariots, a reference to a biblical warrior, aims to occupy all of Gaza and displace its residents, according to Israeli reports. The Israeli government has called up tens of thousands of reservists for the operation. Israeli forces have ramped up strikes on Gaza, killing more than 250 people, many of them women and children, bringing the total fatalities since the start of the war 19 months ago to over 53,000 Palestinians, according to local health officials#Egypt… — Egypt Today Magazine (@EgyptTodayMag) May 16, 2025 According to Israeli reports, the operation is likely to last several months, including the evacuation of the entire population of Gaza from combat zones, including northern Gaza, to areas in the southern Gaza Strip. The Israeli army plans to remain in any area it occupies. 'Strike The Sea' Israeli aircraft dropped leaflets in Deir al-Balah, including Verse 63 of Surat Al-Shu'ara: 'Then We inspired to Moses, 'Strike with your staff the sea,' and it parted, and each portion was like a great towering mountain.' Below them was the text: "O residents of Gaza, the Israeli army is coming." On the ground, 13 Palestinians were killed and others wounded on Saturday when the Israeli occupation bombed civilian homes in Jabalia, north of the Gaza Strip, and Khan Yunis, south of the Strip. Local sources reported that an Israeli drone bombed a house in the western camp in Khan Yunis, south of the Gaza Strip, killing two citizens and wounding others. The sources added that the Israeli occupation bombed a house in the Tal Al-Zaatar area, east of Jabalia camp, north of the Gaza Strip, killing three citizens and wounding others. Civil defense and ambulance crews recovered the body of a Palestinian from in Shuja'iyya neighborhood, east of Gaza City. He was killed by Israeli fire while trying to get food from his home. Israeli airstrikes on a house east of Jabalia, north of the Gaza Strip, also injured a number of citizens, and others were missing under the rubble, with rescue teams having difficulty reaching them. The Israeli forces continue to bomb and destroy homes throughout the Gaza Strip, displacing thousands of citizens, some of whom have left their families under the rubble and unable to rescue them. The war in Gaza has killed over 53,000 people, predominantly women and children, according to local health authorities.

Trump views new Israeli offensive in Gaza as wasted effort: Sources to NBC News

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu speaks with US President Donald Trump at the White House - US GPO CAIRO – 11 May 2025: US President Donald Trump has reportedly described the new Israeli offensive in Gaza as a wasted effort as it undermines his reconstruction plans in the enclave, according to two sources speaking to NBC News. The sources, a US official and another individual familiar with alleged tensions between Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, stated that the US president is disappointed with Tel Aviv's decision to launch a new military offensive in Gaza. Trump reportedly believes the offensive contradicts his plan to rebuild Gaza into the "Riviera of the Middle East," a term he previously used to describe his vision for relocating Palestinians from the strip permanently and undertaking large-scale construction projects. Despite international condemnation, Israeli officials have recently indicated plans for an expanded military campaign in Gaza, with Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich stating the territory will be "entirely destroyed." These plans allegedly include the potential seizure of the entire enclave, the forced displacement of almost all Palestinians to southern Gaza, and taking control of aid distribution alongside private security contractors. Israeli media has reported that Trump is considering announcing a comprehensive plan for peace in Gaza by the end of this week, apparently sidestepping Israel who has refused to stop the war despite Hamas's offer to hand over all captives it still holds in exchange for a permanent ceasefire. US President Donald Trump has reportedly severed direct communication with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu over manipulation concerns#Egypt #Africa #MENAhttps:// — Egypt Today Magazine (@EgyptTodayMag) May 10, 2025 Media outlets have reported on alleged tensions between Trump and Netanyahu regarding the handling of issues in the Middle East, including the Iranian nuclear program. Israel has long considered military action against Iran's nuclear facilities, viewing its archfoe's uranium enrichment levels as a significant threat. Tel Aviv has been awaiting Trump's approval and support for potential strikes against Iran. However, the US initiated talks with Iran last month to pursue a deal limiting Iran's nuclear ambitions. Moreover, the US has seemingly left Israel isolated once again after Trump announced an agreement with the Houthis to cease targeting shipping in the Red Sea. While the Houthis acknowledge the agreement, they maintain it does not extend to Israeli shipping or territories, asserting that they will continue to target Israeli vessels and territories until the war in Gaza ends. Trump, whom Netanyahu described this year as Israel's "best friend," has reportedly severed direct communication with Netanyahu, believing Netanyahu is "manipulating him," according to Yanir Cozin, a correspondent for Israeli Army Radio, citing close associates who spoke to Israeli Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer. Trump is scheduled to embark on a Middle East tour this week, including stops in Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the UAE, notably excluding Israel. The Iranian nuclear program, Red Sea tensions, and the Gaza war are expected to be key topics on the agenda.

Egypt lauds India-Pakistan ceasefire, urges US to foster truce in Gaza

CAIRO – 10 May 2025: Egypt welcomed the announced ceasefire between India and Pakistan, achieved through US mediation, while stressing its reliance on the US role for a similar outcome for Gaza. The nuclear-armed South Asian neighbors agreed to a ceasefire on Saturday after four days of fighting—the worst in decades—that threatened to escalate into full-scale war. The Indian foreign secretary announced that both countries agreed to immediately stop the fighting, effective at 5 PM (1130 GMT) today, following talks between their military chiefs. Pakistani Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar confirmed on X: 'Pakistan and India have agreed to a ceasefire with immediate effect.' Pakistan and India have agreed to a ceasefire with immediate effect. Pakistan has always strived for peace and security in the region, without compromising on its sovereignty and territorial integrity! — Ishaq Dar (@MIshaqDar50) May 10, 2025 Shortly before the announcement, US President Donald Trump stated that India and Pakistan had agreed to a "full and immediate ceasefire." Several civilians were reportedly killed and many more were injured in the exchanges of attacks initiated by India in response to a last month massacre of 26 people, most of them Indian tourists, in Kashmir – a territory divided between the two nations but claimed in full by both. India blames the massacre on Pakistan. 'After a long night of talks mediated by the United States, I am pleased to announce that India and Pakistan have agreed to a FULL AND IMMEDIATE CEASEFIRE,' Trump wrote on his Truth Social account. 'Congratulations to both Countries on using Common Sense and Great Intelligence. Thank you for your attention to this matter!' Resolving the Gaza Crisis This brief escalation between India and Pakistan coincides with the ongoing war in Gaza, which has persisted since October 2023. Israeli forces have killed more than 52,000 people and injured nearly 120,000 amid global failure to halt hostilities. Egypt, Qatar, and the US have been mediating between Hamas and Israel to end the war. Despite successfully brokering a ceasefire in January, Israel resumed fighting in March. The renewed strikes have killed hundreds of Palestinians and have hindered a prisoner exchange that previously led to the release of dozens of captives held by Hamas in Gaza in exchange for nearly 2,000 Palestinian prisoners. Israeli media has reported that Trump is considering announcing a comprehensive plan for peace in Gaza by the end of this week, apparently sidestepping Israel who has refused to stop the war despite Hamas's offer to hand over all captives it still holds in exchange for a permanent ceasefire. US President Donald Trump has reportedly severed direct communication with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu over manipulation concerns#Egypt #Africa #MENAhttps:// — Egypt Today Magazine (@EgyptTodayMag) May 10, 2025 In a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Saturday, Egypt said it hopes that the ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan will contribute to international peace and security, including in the Middle East. Cairo reiterated the critical importance of peaceful solutions to international crises, emphasizing that dialogue and negotiation are the only means to resolve disputes. Egypt lauded the India-Pakistan ceasefire, stating that this positive development represents 'an important step toward achieving the necessary calm between the two countries, supporting security and stability in the South Asian region.' 'Egypt looks forward to both parties committing to the ceasefire agreement, hoping that (the agreement) contributes to building mutual trust and fulfilling the aspirations of the Indian and Pakistani peoples for peace, prosperity, and development,' the ministry added.

UPDATED: Horror in Tel Aviv as missile attack from Yemen triggers sirens in central Israel

Footage showed beachgoers in Tel Aviv rapidly evacuating in large numbers amidst the blaring sirens – Social media CAIRO – 9 May 2025: A missile attack from Yemen triggered sirens across central Israel on Friday, causing panic as many fled to shelters before the Israeli army announced successful interception. Footage showed beachgoers in Tel Aviv rapidly evacuating in large numbers amidst the blaring sirens. The Israeli military confirmed the interception of the ballistic missile with no reports of injuries or damage. The Houthis claimed responsibility for the attack, saying it involved a hypersonic ballistic missile that targeted Ben Gurion Airport. Houthis' military spokesperson Yahya Saree said in a video statement on X that the missile 'successfully achieved its purpose, pushing millions of occupying Zionists to run into shelters and halting airport operations for nearly an hour.' The Houthis' UAV force also conducted a drone attack on a 'vital target' in Yaffa, added Saree. He renewed their warning to global airlines to immediately halt their flights to occupied Palestinian territories and stressed that their ban on air navigation on Israel will continue until Gaza war stops and blockade on the enclave is lifted. Israeli ambulance reports that they have treated eight people from injuries as a ballistic missile launched from Yemen struck Ben Gurion Airport near Tel Aviv, successfully breaching Israeli air defenses#Egypt #Africa #MENAhttps:// — Egypt Today Magazine (@EgyptTodayMag) May 4, 2025 This attack follows recent Israeli airstrikes on Yemen's Hudaydah port city and Sanaa airport earlier this week, which killed and injured several people. The strikes reportedly destroyed three Yemen Airways aircraft and rendered the airport completely inoperable. The Israeli retaliation came after a successful Houthi missile strike on Israel's Ben Gurion Airport near Tel Aviv, injuring six people. The Houthis have launched numerous ballistic missiles at Israel and also targeted Israeli-linked shipping in the Red Sea in solidarity with the Palestinian people since the outbreak of the Gaza war in 2023. While the US had launched an intensified campaign of strikes on Yemen since mid-March in response to their targeting of shipping, President Donald Trump stated on Tuesday that the US would halt bombings after a deal was reached. However, the Houthis clarified that their agreement with the US does not include Israel, and they will continue their attacks against Israeli shipping and territories. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed hope for continued commitment to the agreement, leading to positive progress in ending the Israeli war in Gaza and supporting efforts to achieve regional security and stability.#RedSea #Egypt #yamen — Egypt Today Magazine (@EgyptTodayMag) May 7, 2025
