Siemens Mobility and Egyptian National Railways Put Zagazig Station into Service as Part of Signaling System Modernization

Siemens Mobility, in partnership with Egyptian National Railways (ENR), announces the inauguration of the new signaling Building at Zagazig Station, marking a major milestone in Egypt's nationwide railway modernization efforts. This event comes as part of the directive from H.E. President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to accelerate the upgrade of railway signaling systems and enhance overall safety and efficiency across the country's rail launch includes the main signaling building at Zagazig Station and the commissioning of three additional automatic signaling sections between Zagazig and Menia El Qamh, Zagazig and El Shabanat, and Zagazig and Hehia —covering a total of 36 kilometers. Also commissioned are 17 level crossings, 87 point machines, 144 signals, and 202 track circuits. These upgrades are part of the larger modernization of the Zagazig–Ismailia/Port Said line and the Abu Kabir branch, implemented by Siemens Mobility using advanced Electronic Interlocking Systems (EIS) certified to the highest international safety level, modernization initiative aims to replace the outdated mechanical signaling with a cutting-edge electronic system, ensuring real-time train monitoring, increased daily train frequency, and enhanced operational safety. Additionally, the system introduces automated level crossing gates and integrated control mechanisms to reduce human error and prevent accidents, while allowing train drivers to communicate with central control from any signal in emergency on the inauguration, Lieutenant General Eng. CAIRO – 10 April 2025: Egypt and the United States have signed a series of contracts valued at over USD 235 million, signaling a new phase in their economic cooperation and a major push to modernize Egypt's railway infrastructure. The agreements were signed between Egyptian National Railways and U.S.-based Progress Rail, reflecting both countries' shared commitment to enhancing transportation networks and supporting long-term development goals. The contracts are composed of three key components. The first is a USD 185 million deal to upgrade 1,000 diesel-electric locomotives, aiming to improve efficiency and performance across Egypt's rail system. The second agreement, worth USD 42 million, spans 15 years and ensures the ongoing supply of spare parts for 141 locomotives. A third contract allocates USD 5 million for a five-year technical assistance program to support those same locomotives, with an option to extend the partnership for an additional five years. This landmark deal is expected to create jobs, stimulate local industry, and deepen U.S.-Egypt trade ties. The contracts, valued at over $235 million, will support the supply and service of locomotives, marking a major milestone in U.S.-Egyptian business cooperation and creating jobs. The signing ceremony took place on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, at the Ministry of Transportation in the New Administrative Capital. The contracts include the modernization of 1,000 diesel electric locomotives valued at $185 million, a 15-year agreement to supply parts for 141 locomotives worth $42 million, and a five-year technical assistance services contract for 141 diesel electric locomotives valued at $5 million, with an option to extend for an additional five years. Egyptian Railways Adds Extra Trains for Eid Al Fitr Travel Rush

Egyptian National Railways has announced expanded routes between Cairo, Aswan and Alexandria. Mar 23, 2025 Egyptian National Railways (ENR) has introduced additional train schedules for the Eid Al Fitr holiday to accommodate the increased demand for travel, particularly on Upper Egypt routes. The new services include a special Talgo train (2040) running from Cairo to Aswan, departing at 20:15 and arriving at 08:10, operating between March 25th and April 10th, 2025. Its return service, Talgo train (2041), will run from Aswan to Cairo, departing at 16:50 and arriving at 04:50, from March 26th to April 11th, 2025. Two Spanish trains will also operate on the same route, with Train 1942 leaving Cairo at 22:50 and reaching Aswan at 11:50 between March 25th and April 10th, 2025. Meanwhile, Train 1943 will travel in the opposite direction, departing Aswan at 18:00 and arriving in Cairo at 06:50, between March 26th and April 11th, 2025. ENR has also introduced special conditioned trains to facilitate travel during the holiday period. Train 1938 will operate from Cairo to Aswan at 21:50, arriving at 10:05, running from March 25th to April 10th, 2025. Its return service, Train 1939, will depart from Aswan to Cairo at 22:30 and arrive at 11:15, from March 26th to April 11th, 2025. From March 26th to April 11th, 2025, an additional conditioned train (1940) will depart Cairo at 00:35 and reach Aswan at 12:30, while Train 1941 will depart Aswan at 21:30 and arrive in Cairo at 10:25. For Alexandria-Aswan travel, a VIP train service has also been introduced. Train 1936 will operate from Alexandria to Aswan, departing on March 27th, 2025, at 15:20 and arriving in Aswan at 06:20. Meanwhile, Train 1937 will run from Aswan to Alexandria on April 3rd, 2025, departing at 09:00 and arriving at 00:50.
