Peterborough Eid in the Park event cancelled due to wet weather
An event to celebrate Eid-al-Adha in a city park has been cancelled due to weather conditions, its organiser said. Eid in the Park, which was due to take place at Peterborough Central Park on Friday, has been cancelled after rain was al-Adha, one of the main festivals in the Islamic calendar alongside Eid al-Fitr, will be marked in the UK between Friday and a statement on the event's Facebook page, the organisers said: "We are deeply sorry to announce that due to the wet ground and rain forecast for tomorrow, Eid in the Park is cancelled."
Known as the "Festival of Sacrifice", Eid-al-Adha is a time when Muslims honour and reflect on the Prophet Ibrahim though prayer and charity in the Park was established in 2011 and has held celebrations in Peterborough's parks for Ramadan and Eid organisers added: "The safety and comfort of our community are our utmost priority, and this decision was not made lightly."Eid in the Park's planners encouraged people to pray at their local mosques following the cancellation of the celebrations.
