Horrified followers who witnessed the on-camera bloodshed described seeing Marquez clutch her ribcage just moments before she collapsed to the floor. The gunman then apparently entered the salon and fired another round before fleeing. Marquez, who was known for sharing beauty and lifestyle clips online, was pronounced dead at the scene. Just hours before the slaying, Marquez had shared a selfie on her Instagram Story of herself posing in the salon. Police said they are still trying to track down the gunman. A voice off-camera then asks, 'Hey, Vale?' 'Yes,' she replies—her last word on the livestream—before she mutes the audio. Moments later, Valeria was shot and killed shortly after. In the final seconds of the livestream, someone appears to pick up her phone, and their face briefly flashes on screen before the video abruptly ends. The chilling footage has since left her followers—and the internet—stunned. "This case adds to a series of violent attacks against women in Jalisco, as the state maintains high rates of violence against women , with 1,018 femicides investigated from 2018 to 2023," El Imparcial reported. The death of Valeria Marquez, 23, is being investigated according to protocols for femicide - the killing of women or girls for reasons of gender - the Jalisco state prosecutor said in a statement released on Tuesday evening, according to Reuters.

"It is unknown who did it or why. I just hope the full force of the law falls on this individual. I hope this case is not forgotten like so many others in this country! You hurt my soul, Mexico 🇲🇽 FLY HIGH, VALERI." Marquez was not the only person murdered in the Valle Real neighborhood in Jaliscoa Tuesday. Luis Armando Córdova Díaz, 56, a former federal and local deputy for the Institutional Revolutionary Party, was killed while spending time inside a cafe in the area.
