'Thanks to our brave ICE law enforcement and federal partners, this criminal illegal alien fugitive wanted for murdering a law enforcement official in Mexico is off America's streets. This heinous murderer attempted to evade justice by hiding out in Connecticut,' Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin said in a statement.
Homeland Security officials said Mexican authorities had an arrest warrant for Diaz-Cebada, for aggravated homicide as of April 23, 2024.
He was previously deported by U.S. Border Patrol on May 22, 2024, after illegally entering the U.S. He was deported again two days later when he allegedly attempted to re-enter the U.S.
Officials said he illegally re-entered for a third time on an unknown date, and from an unknown location. This ultimately led to his arrest nearly two weeks ago.
As of Tuesday, officials say he remains in ICE custody pending removal proceedings.
