"Available on website for public to freely download": Maharashtra chief electoral office confronts Rahul Gandhi's allegations on electoral rolls

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], June 9 (ANI): Maharashtra chief electoral office on Monday confronted Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's accusations of electoral roll manipulation in the state assembly elections. The office clarified that electoral rolls are provided to all recognized political parties, including the Congress, free of cost after finalisation. It said that the electoral rolls are revised annually and shared with political parties at the draft and final stages. The finalized electoral rolls for 2009, 2014, 2019, and 2024 assembly elections were shared with the Congress and other parties. 'Electoral rolls are revised annually through a participatory exercise. During this annual exercise, the electoral rolls are shared, free of cost, with recognized political parties, including INC, first at draft stage and second time after its finalization. The similar exercise was done in 2009, 2014, 2019, and 2024 and copies of such electoral rolls were then shared with INC, as well as other political parties,' an official statement from Maharashtra's CEO office said. The electoral rolls for the 2024 general and assembly elections are available for download on the Election Commission's website. 'A complete copy of electoral roll used in general elections to Legislative Assembly, Maharashtra-2024 is also available on website for public to freely download. Even for earlier electoral rolls, a copy of finalized electoral rolls is retained by district election officer as well. Under Rule 33 of the registration of Electors Rules, 1960, any person, including INC, can apply to the concerned District Election Officer and get a copy of such on payment of prescribed fee,' the official statement read. The same position has been repeated previously, with the statement adding, 'CEO, Maharashtra had reiterated this statutory position on 22nd May 2025 to Member of Parliament of INC who sought a copy of electoral rolls which were already provided to the INC at the time of revision in 2009, 2014, and 2024.' Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi had earlier called upon the Election Commission to publish consolidated, digital, machine-readable voter rolls for the most recent elections to the Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabhas of all states, including Maharashtra, saying that 'telling the truth' will protect the poll panel's credibility. In a post on X, he had referred to the ECI's response to his allegations concerning Maharashtra polls and said, 'Releasing unsigned, evasive notes to intermediaries is not the way to respond to serious questions.' The ECI has described such claims by the Congress leader as 'unsubstantiated allegations.' An official statement read, 'Unsubstantiated allegations raised against the Electoral Rolls of Maharashtra are an affront to the rule of law. The Election Commission had brought out all these facts in its reply to the INC on 24th December 2024 itself, which is available on the ECI's website. It appears that all these facts are completely being ignored while raising such issues again and again.' (ANI)

"Dhool chehre pe thi aur aap aina saaf karte rahe'': Maharashtra CM Fadnavis takes sharp jibe at Rahul Gandhi

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], June 8 (ANI): Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Sunday launched a scathing attack on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's allegations against the Election Commission of India (ECI), accusing him of consistently misunderstanding the country's mood and misplacing blame. Speaking to mediapersons in Hindi, Fadnavis said, 'Ta-umr Rahul Gandhi aap yahi galti karte rahe, dhool chehre pe thi aur aap aina saaf karte rahe' (Throughout your life, Rahul Gandhi, you have always made the same mistake; the dust was on your face, but you kept cleaning the mirror). Earlier in the day, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader and Leader of Opposition in the Bihar Assembly, Tejashwi Yadav, strongly backed Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's allegations against the Election Commission of India (ECI), accusing the BJP of hijacking constitutional institutions under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's rule. Speaking to the mediapersons on Sunday, Tejashwi said, 'Ever since Narendra Modi has become the Prime Minister, all constitutional institutions have been hijacked. Before the ECI announces the elections, the BJP IT Cell knows the schedule. We have our eyes on everything. The constitutional institutions must carry out their duties honestly... Everyone needs to stay alert. Everyone knows that all institutions work as a proxy of the BJP.' 'Everyone is working together, not to form the government, but to strengthen Bihar,' he added. The statement came after Congress leader Rahul Gandhi called upon the Election Commission to publish consolidated, digital, machine-readable voter rolls for the most recent elections to the Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabhas of all states, including Maharashtra. Gandhi said that 'telling the truth' will protect the poll panel's credibility. Earlier on Saturday, in a post on X, Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, referred to the ECI's response to his allegations concerning the Maharashtra polls and said, 'releasing unsigned, evasive notes to intermediaries is not the way to respond to serious questions.' In response, ECI described Rahul Gandhi's Maharashtra election poll rigging as 'unsubstantiated allegations.' 'Unsubstantiated allegations against the Electoral Rolls of Maharashtra are an affront to the rule of law. The Election Commission had brought out all these facts in its reply to the INC on 24th December 2024, which is available on ECI's website. It appears that all these facts are completely being ignored while raising such issues repeatedly,' it said. 'Any misinformation being spread, by anyone, is not only a sign of disrespect towards the Law, but also brings disrepute to the thousands of representatives appointed by their political party and demotivates lakhs of election staff who work untiringly and transparently during elections. After any unfavourable verdict by the voters, trying to defame the Election Commission by saying that it is compromised, is completely absurd,' it added. (ANI)

"Rahul Gandhi has already accepted defeat in Bihar elections": Union Minister Chirag Paswan

Patna (Bihar) [India], June 8 (ANI): Reacting to Congress MP Rahul Gandhi's recent statements on elections, Union Minister Chirag Paswan on Sunday said that the Congress MP has already accepted defeat in the Bihar Assembly elections which is why he is making such statements. Paswan further said that if Rahul Gandhi needs to find faults in any institution, it should be his own party Congress. '... The problem with Congress and its leaders is that when introspection is needed, they look for excuses for losing elections... If Rahul Gandhi needs to find faults in any institution, it should not be a constitutional institution, but his own Congress party... Blaming the Election Commission, accusing someone of fixing elections, saying that the EVM is faulty, all this shows that Rahul Gandhi has already accepted defeat in the Bihar Assembly elections... After Bihar, these people will lose states like Assam and Bengal,' Chirag Paswan told reporters. Bihar assembly polls will be held later this year. Meanwhile, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader and Bihar assembly LoP, Tejashwi Yadav, strongly backed Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's allegations against the Election Commission of India (ECI), accusing the BJP of hijacking constitutional institutions under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's rule. Speaking to the mediapersons on Sunday, Tejashwi said, 'Ever since Narendra Modi has become the Prime Minister, all constitutional institutions have been hijacked. Rahul Gandhi Made Allegations, But Sent No Letter To Election Commission: Sources

Quick Read Summary is AI generated, newsroom reviewed. Rahul Gandhi has yet to formally address the Election Commission regarding his allegations of rigging. The ECI dismissed his claims as unsubstantiated and criticised him for undermining the integrity of election officials and processes. New Delhi: Congress MP Rahul Gandhi has not written any letter to the Election Commission of India (ECI) or sought any time for a meeting even 24 hours after he raised allegations of "rigging" in the assembly election held in November last year, ECI sources said today. As per procedure, any constitutional body including the ECI will formally respond only when Mr Gandhi writes to them, the sources said. It is intriguing that Mr Gandhi says the issues being raised by him are "very serious", but when it comes to writing them and sending them to the ECI, he "shies away", sources said. Mr Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, on Saturday asked the Election Commission to publish consolidated, digital and machine-readable voter rolls for the most recent elections to the Lok Sabha and assembly of all states, including Maharashtra, saying "telling the truth" will protect the ECI's credibility. In a post on X, he referred to the ECI's response to his allegations concerning the Maharashtra polls and said, "Releasing unsigned, evasive notes to intermediaries is not the way to respond to serious questions." In response, the ECI described Mr Gandhi's Maharashtra election poll rigging claims as "unsubstantiated allegations." "Unsubstantiated allegations raised against the Electoral Rolls of Maharashtra are an affront to the rule of law. The Election Commission had brought out all these facts in its reply to the INC on 24th December 2024 itself, which is available on the ECI's website. It appears that all these facts are completely being ignored while raising such issues again and again," it said. "Any misinformation being spread, by anyone, is not only a sign of disrespect towards the law but also brings disrepute to the thousands of representatives appointed by their own political party and demotivates lakhs of election staff who work untiringly and transparently during elections. After any unfavourable verdict by the voters, trying to defame the Election Commission by saying that it is compromised, is completely absurd," the poll body said. The Congress's Rae Bareli MP is taken aback by a truthful and factual point-by-point rebuttal given by the Election Commission on Saturday, poll body sources said. "Rahul Gandhi has in fact ended up criticising the booth level agents appointed by his own INC [Congress], polling and counting agents appointed by his own INC candidates in Maharashtra," the sources said. They said the 10.5 lakh booth-level officers, 50 lakh polling officers, and 1 lakh counting supervisors appointed by the ECI all across the country are also disappointed with Mr Gandhi over the allegations being made by him, questioning their integrity and hard work. On Mr Gandhi's demand for CCTV footage, the sources said, "As per instructions of the ECI, the CCTV footage of polling stations can always be scrutinised by a high court in any election petition. This is done by the ECI to protect the integrity of elections as well as to protect the privacy of voters. Why does Rahul Gandhi himself or through his agents want to invade the privacy of voters, which is to be protected by the ECI as per electoral laws? Does Rahul Gandhi not trust even the high courts now?"
