MSEDCL's ‘Run for Safety' marathon in Nagpur an eye opener

Nagpur: Marking its 20th anniversary, the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) kicked off its 'Electrical Safety Week' (June 1–6) on Sunday with the high-energy 'Run for Safety' marathon in Nagpur. The event, aimed at raising awareness about electrical safety and preventing electricity-related accidents across Maharashtra, saw an enthusiastic response from employees and citizens alike. The marathon was flagged off at Vidyut Bhavan by Nagpur circle chief engineer Dilip Dodke. In his inaugural address, Dodke emphasised this year's theme: "Zero Accidents in MSEDCL, Zero in Maharashtra." He highlighted the importance of creating public awareness about electrical safety and reducing the number of accidents, while also underlining the need for prioritising safety and maintaining a healthy work environment. Nearly 700 participants — including senior engineers, department heads, officers, and staff from Nagpur city, Nagpur rural, the regional office, and the testing division — joined the 2.5-kilometre run. Superintendent engineers Amit Paranjpe, Sanjay Wakde, Mangesh Vaidya, and Vaibhav Patode led their respective teams in demonstrating MSEDCL's commitment to safety. Throughout the event, awareness messages were amplified using slogans, brochures, posters, banners, and videos focused on electrical safety. Praising the active participation and teamwork displayed by the staff, he remarked that the marathon not only promoted physical fitness and safety consciousness but also strengthened unity and dedication among MSEDCL employees. Prominent dignitaries, including Adv Gauri Chandrayan, director of customer affairs, graced the occasion alongside the participating engineers. Beyond the marathon, MSEDCL has lined up a series of public outreach initiatives for Electrical Safety Week. These include public awareness campaigns, essay and drawing competitions, a safety quiz, poster campaigns, and a rally to mark World Environment Day on June 5. Additionally, safety messages are being disseminated via SMS and email to both employees and consumers. Branch offices are hosting safety pledge ceremonies, and a series of entertainment and cultural programmes have been planned for employees and their families to reinforce the importance of safety in both professional and personal settings.
