Yale New Haven Health gives out book awards to high school students
NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — Yale New Haven Health (YNHH) gave out its first event Black History Month book award Monday night.
The award is given to a high school senior who shows their commitment to higher education.
'It's something that is really powerful and meaningful for us as an organization to be able to support the students, to be able to help them to get to college, and to make sure they have the books that they need in order to advance their education,' Denise Morris, vice president of inclusion, belonging, employee and labor relations for YNHH said. 'So it's very fulfilling at the end of the day for us.'
The winner was a high school student named Elissa Matthews. Other winners also went home with $1,000 they can use toward their first year book expenses.
