Ex-HYBE staff accuses Bang Si Hyuk of unwanted physical contact, all we know about ‘uncomfortable' 2017 incident amid stock probe
Allegations against HYBE founder and chairman Bang Si Hyuk have surfaced online. A former BigHit Entertainment employee shared a personal account describing an uncomfortable encounter. It involves political pressure and physical boundary violations. The post, made by Elly Chae Eun, who previously served as the Communications Director for BigHit, has rapidly gone viral. A memory from 2017 surfaces Elly Chae Eun took to her personal Threads account on June 7 to recall an incident that took place eight years ago. It was during her time at BigHit Entertainment, the agency now known as HYBE. According to Elly, the event occurred just days before the 2017 South Korean presidential election. She explained that she had been required to work over the weekend due to a backlog of tasks. She ended up sharing a meal with Bang Si Hyuk at a local kalguksu (knife-cut noodle) restaurant near the office. It was during this seemingly casual lunch that, according to her, the conversation took an uncomfortable and inappropriate turn. Allegations of political pressure and physical contact In her detailed account, Elly claimed that Bang Si Hyuk attempted to influence her voting decision. He urged her to support then-candidate Moon Jae In. Despite her insistence that she held centrist political views and had not made a final decision, Bang reportedly continued to pressure her to vote a certain way. What escalated the discomfort, she wrote, was the moment Bang allegedly reached across the table and held her hand while emphasizing his political stance. 'He suddenly grabbed my hand and earnestly pleaded that I must vote for Moon Jae In,' she wrote. Elly described the interaction as 'extremely uncomfortable and bewildering.' She framed the interaction as a textbook case of 'workplace power harassment.' She questioned, 'Even though I had clearly expressed my political stance, he insisted and even made unwanted physical contact to push his opinion. Isn't this exactly what we call power harassment in the workplace?' Financial investigations into HYBE The timing of Elly's revelations is particularly striking, as they coincide with a widening investigation into HYBE and Bang Si Hyuk's financial dealings. The Financial Supervisory Service (FSS) is currently probing Bang for allegedly misleading investors into selling company shares to a private equity fund tied to one of his close associates. Authorities have already executed a search and seizure operation related to HYBE's financial affairs. It has been reported that a warrant has been filed regarding Bang Si Hyuk's individual involvement in the alleged misconduct. The two matters, Elly's claims and the ongoing financial investigation, are separate. But the public response suggests that the tide of scrutiny surrounding HYBE's leadership is growing stronger by the day. HYBE yet to respond As of this writing, neither HYBE nor Bang Si Hyuk has issued a public statement addressing the allegations raised by Elly Chae Eun. Industry observers are watching closely to see whether the mounting public pressure will prompt an official response or further revelations.

‘When BTS members got shares…': Fired BIGHIT director's explosive post reveals ‘evil' HYBE let ‘alcoholics' devour shareholders' stocks
BTS' comeback as OT7 after two long years is due this week. This would mark the first time since the legendary K-pop singers enlisted in the military that their agency, HYBE, has finally seen a decent uptick in the stock market. But just when things were starting to look up, the agency's chairman and CEO, Bang Si Hyuk found himself under the FSS scanner in a suspected stock fraud case. A search and seizure were carried out days ago. And now, Elly Chae Eun, former communications director at the company, has broken her silence. In a blistering social media post, she tore into the toxic work culture at HYBE and even mentioned BTS, while making it clear the boys had no part in the mess. Also read: BTS mastermind Bang Si Hyuk may face life in prison over suspected $290 million fraud; HYBE shares plunge Elly Chae Eun was allegedly fired in 2017, claiming the company dismissed her because she 'no longer suited their preferences.' On June 7, Elly posted a statement on Threads calling out HYBE's deep-rooted greed. In a post titled, 'This is the hidden story behind the process of being promoted to an executive — something even I didn't know,' she said she was asked to leave despite sacrificing years of her life, both physically and mentally (translated via Koreaboo). Elly wrote, 'I used to sleep with my phone next to me all the time. I lost 7kg over two years after joining the company and even had symptoms of hair loss. I poured my heart into my work, taking care of the company's male idols — 'sons of others' — rather than my own precious children.' Then came the real sting. According to Elly, after she left, HYBE handed out huge sums (₩50-100 billion) to their inner circle, people who, she says, weren't even around when BIGHIT was struggling in its early days. This timeline matches the Financial Supervisory Service's allegations accusing Bang Si Hyuk of manipulating shareholders into selling their shares cheaply by denying IPO plans, only to go public later anyway. Also read: BTS' RM, V, Jimin and Jungkook to greet fans at designated locations post-discharge; BIGHIT says, 'Refrain from visiting' In 2020, each BTS member became a shareholder in HYBE, which originally started as BIGHIT with the seven-member boy band. In her post, Elly cleared BTS of any wrongdoing. She said she genuinely celebrated when BTS members received shares and grew wealthy, calling them the real foundation of the company. 'They absolutely deserved everything they achieved — those seven were the beginning of HYBE itself.' However, she claimed the real problem lies with the corporate suits who swooped in later. 'The ones who later swooped in and devoured shareholders' stocks at cheap prices, who went behind people's backs… people who played golf with corporate cards, lounged in luxury rooms, drank alcohol — they are the real evil ones.' Bang Si Hyuk is currently being accused of pulling off a shady deal that helped his close allies buy investor shares at dirt-cheap prices, right before HYBE went public in 2020. The profit was a whopping ₩400 billion (around $290 million), with Bang reportedly getting a huge cut, around 30%, through a secret deal with a private equity fund set up by someone close to him. South Korean law demands full transparency when it comes to IPO filings, and according to the officials, Bang failed to do that. Misleading investors like this could land someone in prison for life. HYBE, for their part, has denied everything.

Homes Gates, Security Systems Affected By 3G Shutdown
Christchurch woman Elly was shocked to be told that, if she wants her automatic gate to keep working as it is now, she'll have to spend almost $1000 to get it upgraded. The gate runs on the 3G mobile network that is being turned off at the end of the year. She said she wouldn't be too annoyed, except that she only bought the gate in January last year, well after the shutdown of the network was signalled. "We saved for ages for the gate, you'd expect something like that to last." When she posted on social media about the issue, she was contacted by other people facing similar problems. Aero New Zealand, which provides gate access automation, said Centurion G-Ultra and G-Speak Ultra devices would not have any GSM functionality after the end of this year. General manager Anton Neveling said initially there had been hundreds that needed to be updated but there were now only a handful remaining. He said the detail of the upgrade procedure would vary according to the installer doing the work. "Since early 2024, we've actively promoted 4G upgrade campaigns to our installer network and have only sold 4G-capable devices for the last two years. The majority of our install base have upgraded since the notices started going out . The telcos' 2G/3G shutdown was initially planned for end of 2024 so who knows even if they will keep to the end of year new deadline, however most of our clients already upgraded in the past 12 months, and the remaining ones will upgrade if they want to in the next six month as some just simply use their remote to open the gates. "In our product space, the 3G shutdown does not affect the gate, remote control, or keypad operation, only app-based functions such as push notifications, SMS alerts, or opening via a mobile app." His business had stopped selling the 3G gates in 2023 with the expectation that the shutdown would happen. But it was possible that Elly's had remained in a warehouse until it was installed. "Something I believe is a more pressing concern across other industries - luckily not us - is the impact on the security alarm sector, where many systems still rely heavily on 2G and 3G networks for connectivity. Numerous alarm providers are facing significant upgrade programs, as these systems often stop working entirely when the network is retired." Nick Gelling, product test writer at Consumer NZ, said the shutdown of the 3G network was announced in 2022 and businesses selling products relying on it should have known it was coming. "If you purchased something in the last few years that will stop working after 3G is shut down, you can ask the retailer to put it right under the Consumer Guarantees Act as the goods are not fit for purpose or of acceptable quality. The retailer has to provide a repair, replacement or refund. The only exception to this would be if the retailer clearly warned you the product would stop working when 3G is shut down at the end of this year. "If you don't have any luck with the retailer, you can lodge a claim at the Disputes Tribunal." Telecommunications Forum Chief Executive Paul Brislen said there were a huge array of devices that communicated with the outside world and people needed to determine whether they used 3G and needed upgrading or not. "Devices I've come across so far include some agri-tech equipment, lifts, solar arrays, health monitor alarms, fleet tracking systems and quite a lot else besides. This is the first I've heard of gates, though. "The telco sector started talking to equipment makers about this sort of dependency several years ago and has been working with a number of technology providers to make sure they're supporting customers. For some it's as simple as swapping out the communications module or upgrading the device, but for others the modules are embedded in the product and customers will need a new model to continue operating." He said his organisation had written to retailers reminding them to double-check to make sure products they were selling would continue to function after the shut-off. The Commerce Commission said it had received nine inquiries relating to products' workability after the 3G shutdown. "Under the Fair Trading Act, traders should not mislead consumers about the products and services that they sell. Traders should inform consumers of any upcoming changes when selling devices that may no longer work once the changes to 3G are implemented. "If consumers are not informed of these changes at time of purchase, this could raise concerns under the Fair Trading Act. Consumers also have rights under the Consumer Guarantees Act (CGA)."
