Honoring cyclists with silence in Elmira
ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM) — If you're up for some bike riding on Wednesday, there's a quiet but powerful event people might want to be a part of.
The Elmira Community Cycle shared in a recent Facebook post that it will be hosting the annual 'Ride of Silence', honoring cyclists who have been injured or killed on the roads. The 'Ride of Silence' has been happening universally for 22 years, with Wednesday marking its 23rd.
Tire collection event coming to Chemung County in May
According to the post, the 'Ride of Silence' will take place on Wednesday, May 21, and is set to begin at 7 p.m. at the Elmira Community Cycle, located at 200 W Fifth St, in the City of Elmira.
This isn't just any bike ride. As the post explained, cyclists around the world will be pedaling in silence at the same time, also honoring riders who have been killed or hurt on roadways. The Elmira Community Cycle asked participants to wear white, a symbol of unity and remembrance.

The post stated, it's a way to quietly stand in support of riders and anyone impacted by these tragedies. Elmira's ride is part of a global movement, and the post made it clear that this moment of silence will be echoed worldwide.
