Which candidates won the general election suburb races for mayor in, near Jackson metro?
Unofficial results for mayor races in the Jackson-metro area's suburban municipal general election are now available. The Clarion Ledger compiled a list of mayor candidates who emerged victorious in cities across Hinds, Rankin, Madison and Warren counties, with city clerks providing unofficial results. The Mississippi Secretary of State must still certify each race. The list also contains uncontested mayoral races in areas such as Brandon, Canton, Flowood, Pearl and Ridgeland. See below the unofficial election results. Who won races in Jackson? Jackson, MS, election results for June 3 general election for mayor, city council races Byram: Independent incumbent Byram Mayor Richard White defeated his democratic opponent Elroy Winding. According to unofficial results, White received 1,416 votes and Winding received 829 votes. Canton: Democrat Tim Taylor defeated his two opponents: Republican Chip Matthews and Independent Walter Peeples. According to unofficial results, Taylor received 1,593 votes, Matthews received 127 votes and Walter received 224 votes. Incumbent Mayor William Truly did not seek reelection. Pearl: Republican incumbent Pearl Mayor Jake Windham defeated his opponent Democrat Willie Robinson. According to unofficial results, Windham received 1,644 votes and Robinson received 460 votes. Richland: Independent incumbent Richland Mayor Clay Burns defeated his opponent Garsheo "Gus" Black, independent. According to unofficial results, Burns received 800 votes and Black received 353 votes. Vicksburg: Democrat Willis Thompson defeated his opponent, independent incumbent Vicksburg Mayor Geroge Flaggs, Jr. According to unofficial results, Thompson received 1,770 votes and Flaggs received 1,709 votes. Another candidate in the mayoral race was independent Kasman Massey who received 546 votes. Brandon: There was no mayor race in Brandon. Republican incumbent Butch Lee remains the mayor of Brandon, winning re-election during the April 1 primary election. Lee is moving into his fourth term as mayor. Clinton: There was no mayor race in Clinton. Republican incumbent Clinton Mayor Phil Fisher passed the baton to Republican William C. Purdie, who ran unopposed. Fisher announced his retirement in September 2024 after serving as Clinton Mayor since 2013. Flora: Independent incumbent Flora Mayor Les Childress ran unopposed. Childress has served as Flora Mayor since 2009. Flowood: There was no mayor race in Flowood. Republican Kathy Smith won the April 1 primary election becoming the new mayor of Flowood. Incumbent Mayor Gary Rhoads announced in November 2024 that he would not seek re-election after serving nearly 36 years in the role. Gluckstadt: Incumbent Mayor Walter C. Morrison IV, a Republican, ran unopposed. Madison: There was no mayor race in Madison. Incumbent Mayor Mary Hawkins Butler, Republican ran unopposed for what will be her 12th consecutive term. Hawkins Butler is the second longest-serving female mayor in the nation and began her first term as Madison Mayor in 1981. Ridgeland: Incumbent Mayor Gene F. McGee, a Republican, ran unopposed. McGee has served as Ridgeland Mayor since 1989. During his time as mayor, McGee has served as President of the Mississippi Municipal League and chaired several committees.
