Why aren't Dorothy's Slippers Red in Wicked: For Good?
Wicked starring Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo was one of the biggest movies to come out last year, ad Universal is set to close the story with the sequel Wicked: For Good . The movie is set to come out this November, and we have a new trailer which showcases the aftermath of the events of The Wizard of Oz , but fans have noticed one odd detail. Check this out: Instead of the ruby red slippers that Dorothy wore in the original movie, she's instead wearing silver heels—the same ones that Nessarose wore in the first movie. While some would hope that they would keep the iconic red slippers, it is speculated that Universal wasn't allowed to use them, seeing that the original movie is currently owned by Warner Bros—and the red slippers were something they made for the film since it popped better onscreen; in the original books, the slippers were silver. Though some think that they could have just made some kind of deal like they did with Spider-Man and Marvel, director Jon M. Chu told Variety that it was always his plan to steer away from the ruby shoes—they did reference it in the Popular musical number in the first movie. It's funny that these Wizard of Oz adaptations try to stick close to the books because the movie is owned by another studio, but ultimately the original film is so influential to the story that they can't help but be inspired by it—from Dorothy's look to the citizens and appearance of the Emerald City. Either way, if it gets more people to check out the original film, I'm sure these new Wicked movies would have done their job. Catch Wicked: For Good when it comes to cinemas on Nov. 21.

Taylor Swift fans sent into meltdown over image of superstar in upcoming Wicked movie
Taylor Swift fans have been sent into meltdown over an image of the superstar in the upcoming Wicked movie - but all is not as it seems. The post, which coincided with the release of the new trailer, showed the Grammy Award winner, 35, dressed as Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz. 'First look at Dorothy, who will be played by Taylor Swift in WICKED: FOR GOOD,' the X (formerly Twitter) thread began. In it, Taylor boasted the character's classic braids tied with blue bows as well as her signature checkered blue dress. A glimpse of the Emerald City could be spotted in the background - complete with the classic yellow brick road. The image sent shockwaves through Taylor's fandom as one wrote: 'I mean why not? She can do it.' 'OMGG this is why she didn't do the re-recordings of reputation because she's filming Wicked: For Good,' another shared. One comment read: 'OMG, Taylor Swift as Dorothy?! This is HUGE! I'm so excited, I can barely contain myself! That's such a fantastic casting choice.' However, others, who aren't fans of the star, weren't too excited about the 'casting.' 'This has the potential to go really good or really bad...' a user said. 'Damn, I kinda don't wanna watch it now,' someone admitted. Someone else simply wrote: 'Absolutely not.' 'That's it, I'm not gonna watch it,' a user shared. 'Shouldn't it be like… a young girl?' a person questioned. However, after a closer look, the image appeared to be AI-generated image posted by Pop Base parody account, Pob Base. Wicked: For Good is set to hit cinemas on November 21 - about a year after the first movie. This isn't the first time Swifties were fooled by a convincing picture this week. Taylor fans convinced themselves that the pop star was pregnant thanks to an optical illusion. The rumor mill went into overdrive after she stepped out in New York with what appeared to be a pregnant belly on display. 'She's eight months pregnant,' wrote one fan on X, while another posted, 'Taylor appears pregnant in New York!' However, upon closer inspection, it was clear that Swift's black mini-dress had blended into a black car in the background, which made it look like she had a large baby bump.

Wicked: For Good trailer shows Elphaba in exile and first glimpse of Dorothy
The first full-length trailer for the Wicked sequel offers fans a glimpse of Elphaba's life in exile after flying away to Oz's western lands. Footage from the movie also teases a first look at Dorothy, the protagonist of L Frank Baum's novel The Wonderful Wizard Of Oz, who is seen walking down the yellow brick road. Advertisement Wicked: For Good will see Elphaba, played by Cynthia Erivo, demonised by those in Oz, and transformed into The Wicked Witch Of The West, as she is known in Baum's novel about the fantastical world. It picks off where the first film left off, covering the years after Elphaba parted ways with her friend, Glinda, played by US pop star Ariana Grande. In the trailer the friends sing the song For Good as the Wizard asks Dorothy and her friends to 'bring me the broom of the Wicked Witch Of The West'. It ends with Elphaba saying 'I'm off to see the Wizard' before flying on a broom into the distance with her winged monkeys. Advertisement The film, directed by Jon M Chu, shows Elphaba continuing her fight for the freedom of Oz's silenced animals while Glinda lives at the palace in Emerald City. Wicked also stars English actor Jonathan Bailey as roguish and carefree prince Fiyero, American actor and singer Ethan Slater as altruistic munchkin student Boq, and Jurassic Park's Jeff Goldblum as the Wizard. The films have been adapted from the musical, which was based on Gregory Maguire's 1995 novel of the same name – which was in turn based on the story first told in Baum's 1900 children's novel, adapted into the 1939 film starring Judy Garland as Dorothy Gale. Wicked: For Good will show in cinemas in Ireland and the UK from November 21st. Advertisement

Wicked: For Good first trailer reveals new songs, a wedding, and the first glimpse of Dorothy as fans try to figure out who will play the iconic character
The first trailer for Wicked's hotly-anticipated sequel has sent fans into a frenzy. Wicked: For Good is set to hit cinemas on November 21, with a first look at the movie conclusion of the Broadway hit teasing the fate of the protagonists and a first look at new characters. The sequel sees the return of Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba, the Wicked Witch of the West, and Ariana Grande as Glinda, the Good Witch of the North - with part two of the musical movie following their friendship after Elphaba was banished from Oz. Elphaba is living in exile, hidden within the Ozian forest while continuing her fight for the freedom of Oz's silenced Animals and desperately trying to expose the truth about The Wizard (Jeff Goldblum). Glinda, meanwhile, has become the symbol of Goodness for all of Oz, living at the palace in Emerald City and reveling in the perks of fame and popularity as she prepares to tie the knot with Prince Fiyero (Jonathan Bailey). From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new Showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. She is also working under the instruction of Madame Morrible (Michelle Yeoh) to convince the citizens of Oz that they have nothing to fear when it comes to The Wizard. Yet behind the scenes, Glinda is attempting to reconcile Elphaba and The Wizard, which only results in her being drawn further apart from her friend. As a result Boq (Ethan Slater) and Fiyero are set to be changed forever, while the safety of Elphaba's sister, Nessarose (Marissa Bode) comes into question. Just as tensions in Oz reach an all time high, a girl from Kansas comes crashing into all their lives. Fans went wild at the first glimpse of Dorothy - who was seen walking along the yellow brick road with the Tin Man, Cowardly Lion, and Scarecrow. Her face was obscured as she was shown from the back, with fans taking to X/Twitter to try and figure out her identity. They penned: 'the way we still don't know who plays as dorothy in wicked new trailer'; In wicked for good what if we don't see Dorothy's face the whole movie.?' 'So She brings Dorothy to Oz?'; 'i just watched wicked last sunday and it's so gooood oh i can't wait for this. show me dorothy pls!!'; 'Who do you think could be playing Dorothy in Wicked For Good?'; 'The crazy part about the Wicked: For Good trailer is the fact that there's still so much to come. We didn't see Nessarose or Boq. They recently filmed scenes at Shiz for this. We got a little of Dorothy's crew. This is just a glimpse. I can't wait to see it ALL unfold'; Several names have been put forward while fans try to guess who is Dorothy. The frontrunner so far is Alisha Weir, 15, who is best known for playing Matilda in the Netflix adaptation of Matilda the Musical and the titular character in the horror flick Abigail. Others have suggested that Addison Rae or Taylor Swift could be slipping into the iconic ruby red slippers. Last year's global cinematic cultural sensation, which became the most successful Broadway film adaptation of all time, now reaches its epic, electrifying, emotional conclusion in Wicked: For Good. Wicked: For Good is being directed again by award-winning Jon M. Chu, who has confirmed that there will be new, original songs in the sequel, along with fan favourites For Good and No Good Deed. Describing the tunes as 'bangers', he revealed: 'I think it's been reported we have two new songs. 'They're great additions to this movie. They were necessary in this movie to help tell the story.' In May, Ariana and Cynthia opened up about their experience with Wicked as they spoke with fans during CinemaCon. Poking fun at last year's promotional tour which saw the pair getting emotional in a number of interviews, Cynthia said that there will be 'less waterworks this time'. She added: 'but I am not sure we can live up to that', as Ariana humorously claimed that she already packed tissues. Late last year, Jon teased what viewers can expect with the sequel and told Entertainment Weekly, 'If Part 1 is about choices, Part 2 is about consequences. 'Choices are difficult to make, but when you do make those choices, sometimes the result isn't what you expect it to be. It can be lonely, it can be hard.' He also added, 'There's a lot of soul searching in movie 2. They're asking, "Is this the right decision that you made?"' The director later talked about the darker tone of the upcoming film, but shared that there will also be lighter elements. 'There is lots of lightness in the movie. There's a lot of fun parts. We've not forgotten about that, but there's a matureness and a nuance to it that we earn from the first movie. The second movie really gets to play with [that maturity].' Meanwhile Cynthia told People in February, 'I think you can expect a little bit of spice in the second part because they've grown up a little bit.' She explained that the characters are 'not in school anymore; they've stepped into their careers and stepped into their choices.' Wicked was a box office success and raked in around $747.2 million on a budget of $150 million.

'Wicked: For Good' Trailer Teases Elphaba's Rage Amid Witch-Hunt And Dorothy's Arrival
The witch-hunt is on, as Emerald City prepares to open its gates again. Universal has debuted the trailer for Wicked: For Good , the follow-up to Jon M. Chu's big-screen adaptation of the hit Broadway musical, teasing higher stakes that will put Elphaba and Glinda's friendship to the test, more flying monkeys, a first look at Dorothy, and, of course, plenty of singing. 'Elphaba, they're coming for you,' warns Glinda, played by singer-actor Ariana Grande, midway into the video, which also includes familiar nods to the Wizard of Oz story, like the yellow brick road, and Dorothy and her companions — The Tin Man, The Scarecrow, and The Cowardly Lion. Oh, and the preview of 'For Good' and 'No Good Deed' is bound to delight fans. Picking up after the final scene in the first movie, in which Cynthia Erivo's Elphaba flies through the sky while singing the iconic 'Defying Gravity', Wicked: For Good focuses on the two witches facing the consequences of their previous decisions. Per the official logline, this second part is 'set in the Land of Oz, before and after Dorothy Gale's arrival from Kansas', and will cover the events of the musical's second act, as they 'embrace their new respective identities as the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good Witch of the North, and how the consequences of their actions will change all of Oz forever.' Reprising their roles alongside Eviro and Grande are Jonathan Bailey ( Bridgerton ) as Fiyero Tigelaar, Ethan Slater as Boq Woodsman, Marissa Bode as Nessarose Thropp, Michelle Yeoh ( Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon ) as Madame Morrible, and Jeff Goldblum ( Jurassic Park franchise) as The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. Chu is back in the director's chair, with Marc Platt and David Stone serving as producers. The first Wicked film hit theatres last November, and together with Gladiator II , opened to a combined US$270 million at the global box office. It would go on to earn US$634 million worldwide after six weeks, and is now the highest-grossing Broadway adaptation globally. The stage version is loosely based on Gregory Maguire's 1995 novel 'Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West' and has remained a Broadway sensation over the years. Wicked: For Good is slated for release on 21 November. Si Jia is a casual geek at heart – or as casual as someone with Sephiroth's theme on her Spotify playlist can get.
